Unhooking from Unrealistic Ideals: Guiding Teens to Find Their Own Path Rather Than Chasing Others’ Approval (Outweigh)

1/25/2025
OUTWEIGH: In the final episode of our series, Leanne sits down with Natalie Borrell of Life Success for Teens to tackle one of the biggest pitfalls facing today’s youth: the constant battle for external validation. With social media, peer pressure, and cultural standards all shouting for attention, teens’ developing brains are especially vulnerable to body comparisons, perfectionism, and crippling self-doubt. In this episode, Natalie and Leanne break down how these external ideals can distort self-image and push teenagers toward dangerous habits with food and beyond. They also share actionable strategies for flipping the script—focusing on inner growth, values, and resilience rather than the quick-fix highs of likes, followers, or fitting a narrow beauty standard. The result? When teens learn to stand in their own worth, the pull to “measure up” fades, and the need to chase approval through their body or appearance naturally loses its grip. If you want to see your teen thrive with genuine self-confidence, rather than frantic comparison-itis, don’t miss this conversation. Your Teen’s Real Hunger: Meeting Emotional Needs When Food Isn’t the Answer (Outweigh)

1/17/2025
OUTWEIGH: Have you ever wondered why your teen seems to reach for snacks—even when they’re not hungry? In this second part of our series, Leanne is back with Natalie Borrell of Life Success for Teens to dig into the hidden emotional triggers that push teens toward food for a quick dopamine hit. They look at how stress, loneliness, boredom, and anxiety can morph into cravings that have little to do with actual hunger—and how you, as a parent, can offer them alternatives that truly soothe the root cause. Natalie and Leanne share brain-based strategies to help teens recognize what they’re really feeling, break the pattern of food-as-comfort, and practice healthier outlets for life’s daily challenges. From teaching emotional awareness to rewiring old coping habits, it’s not about willpower or “just say no.” It’s about giving teens the practical tools they need to handle stress without turning to the pantry. If you’re tired of watching your teen battle silent anxieties that show up in a snack bowl, this episode is a must-listen. Why Intuitive Eating Fails the Women Who Need It Most (And Why ‘Just Listen to Your Body’ Isn’t Enough) (Outweigh)

1/4/2025
OUTWEIGH: If you’ve tried Intuitive Eating and found yourself even more confused, ashamed, or convinced you’re “broken,” this episode is for you. We’re digging into the hidden reason why “just listen to your body” often fails women who’ve used food to cope with stress, loneliness, or chronic dieting for decades. It’s not that Intuitive Eating is flawed—it’s that your brain’s wiring may be drowned out by emotional triggers and old habits, making it impossible to hear your body’s cues. Join Leanne as she unpacks how Intuitive Eating can overlook the deeper, brain-based loops that compel you to eat when you’re not hungry. She explores why willpower alone won’t break these patterns—and why self-blame isn’t the answer. If you’ve been shaming yourself for not “getting” Intuitive Eating, this conversation will free you from the myth that you’re the problem and shed light on the real path to finding peace with food and your body. 12/24/2024
Welcome to the '5th Thing' with Amy & Kat!! Today’s quote is: “You can be healing and feel broken at the same time. Healing isn’t a destination we reach where we are perfect and at peace all the time. Healing is a journey that involves accepting and embracing ourselves as we break, as we heal, and as we reconstruct.” This quote resonated with Amy and she finds so much comfort with the words: “healing isn’t a destination.” Today’s chat is based on emails from McKenzie (family drama + people pleasing + feeling lighter after setting a boundary + 5 myths of friendship), Suzanne (microbladed brows by Meegen + seeing the rainbow after the storm), Ann (tips for saving money + how to get your phone back if you lose it + the ZARA pants you need in your life), and Shannon (a reminder to find a way to give yourself a break from day to day life. Ending the Year with Self-Compassion: Reflecting and Celebrating Wins Beyond the Scale (OUTWEIGH)

12/21/2024
Outweigh: As we close out the year, it’s easy to fall into the trap of measuring our worth by the scale or the “perfect” body we never quite achieved. In this episode of Outweigh, we’re challenging that narrative head-on. Instead of focusing on what your body didn’t accomplish, let’s celebrate the deeper, more meaningful wins that have nothing to do with a number. From emotional growth and boundary-setting to moments of self-compassion and courage, these are the victories that truly matter—and they’re worth so much more than any dress size or diet goal. Join Leanne as we shift our perspective and embrace the idea that real success isn’t about meeting some external standard, but about showing up for yourself with kindness and understanding. It’s time to acknowledge how far you’ve come, even if the scale doesn’t tell the story you expected. Let’s end the year not with judgment and regret, but with genuine pride in who we are becoming—beyond the scale, beyond the body, and beyond the old ways of measuring our worth. Getting Her Groove Back at 62: A Story of Healing, Strength, and New Beginnings After Losing Her Husband (Outweigh)

12/14/2024
OUTWEIGH: “She spent decades caring for everyone else. But at 62, Lisa finally learned how to care for herself.” Meet Lisa. For over 20 years, Lisa felt trapped in a relentless food and diet prison. Food carried the weight of shame and guilt, and she was stuck in the endless cycle of dieting, losing, and regaining. And after the heartbreaking loss of her husband, Lisa poured herself into being a caretaker, forgetting entirely what it looked like to care for herself. Diets had eluded her. She felt helpless and isolated, unsure if freedom was even possible. And she was tired of the Weight Watchers cycle—knowing another round of restriction wasn’t the answer. But deep down, Lisa had hope. She knew there had to be a better way to heal her relationship with food, her body, and herself. That’s when Lisa made the decision to commit to herself for the first time in decades. She took a leap of faith and began her journey to heal her body and mind—not through dieting, but through transformation of her brain. And the results? Nothing short of life-changing. In this inspiring interview, Lisa shares: How she found life again after the loss of her husband. Why ditching the diet mentality was the key to her freedom. How, at 62 years old, she reclaimed her health, her confidence, and her groove! Lisa’s story is proof that it’s never too late to start again—and that freedom is possible at any age.
