So talk to us. What's one piece of advice you can give us this Monday morning? Kirk: Sure. Thanks for having me on Michael. So this morning, I can guarantee you we work three days a week and I can outpace any other team. My office can outpace any other team on four to five days a week. and that's due to scheduling efficiency. So something that we do very well is we look at the schedule about every quarter and see what we can do to improve, see where bottlenecks are. We ask our assistants and our hygienists and our front desk like, Hey, where are you seeing inefficiencies in the, in the schedule and. We can adjust that accordingly. Um, but it's not cookie cutter. Obviously. I can give you frameworks. Mm-Hmm. But at the end of the day, like I know I was talking to a client of mine the other day and we were looking at one of his doctors outta seven, and I was just asking him simply like, okay, how long do you do each procedure? So write down how long it takes you and ask your assistance to, 'cause like doctors are oblivious to sometimes to things and like ask like. How long does each procedure take? How long does a three surface filling take? How long does a crown prep take? How long does this take? And when you figure out how long those procedures take. You can then look at the schedule, figure out the goal you're trying to hit, and really just customize where you want throughout the schedule to run in order to actually hit those goals. I know, like I said, that client of mine, his goal was to hit, you know, 4,800 a a day after adjustments, and after just looking at a schedule and, and simply asking those questions, we were able to focus on the larger procedures. Fill in with the smaller sort of procedures, and now his goal is 6,500 to 7,000. Just...

MME: Break the Mould on Pricing | How to Add $100k Production to Your Month! | Dr. Nathan Coughlin

2/11/2024
‍ Ever been confounded by how to perfectly price your dental services? In this episode, our knowledgeable guest is Dr. Nathan Coughlin, an experienced dentist and entrepreneur, who unveils some of his best advice on pricing dental treatments. Nathan underscores the trap of racing to the bottom in pricing to compete, instead advocating for services' differentiation to significantly stand out in the crowded dental market. Diving deeper, Nathan delves into some practical applications of his advice using orthodontics practices as a case in point—where the bare offering of braces can be supplemented by additional services like dental X-rays, impressions, retainers, and teeth whitening, to name a few. He sheds light on the crucial psychological factors at play, such as aura of scarcity and the urgency, that can be generated by strategizing a limited-time offering, which in turn significantly boosts the perceived value of your bundled services. So talk to us. What's one piece of advice you can give us this Monday morning? Avi: So I, my piece of advice would be to kind of simplify, I. Everything you're doing and focus on one thing. And I think a good place to start is with yourself. So, and then even with yourself, right? There's different aspects. There's your mental self, your physical self, your emotional self. And I think if you first focus on your mental self and you do what you can to get that in order and get that into a place where. You have more control. Uh, I'm not talking about mind control, but something, something close to that. But if you, if you focus on your mental self, everything from that point I believe flows. So, um, for example, myself, about two and a half years ago, I started doing therapy. I was doing it because I wanted to improve. Um. My relationship with my wife. Mm-Hmm. And I just wanted to be a better person. I wanted to be able to support her better, but then also myself, just be better. I think that was like the goal. Mm-Hmm. And what I noticed from that point on was I started creating these habits because my focus was on improving. Essentially my mental health or myself. I started creating a morning routine. And so that morning routine was journaling, meditating, stretching. That then led to me being more organized, more focused during the day, uh, less stressed. so that's kind of how it went into the business way of how it helped me in life. But then physically, um, I got into the best shape of my life. I started being more intentional about what I was eating, what I was kinda spending my time on in terms of working out movement, stuff like that. And so just by starting on focusing on one thing by myself or on my mental health rather, all this stuff flowed. And I think you can...

MME: The Dual Role of Culture and Finance in Your Dental Practice | Dr. Paul Goodman

1/28/2024
‍ Ever wonder how leading your dental practice with a positive culture and strong financial awareness can result in enhanced patient care and increased profitability? In this episode, I engage in a thought-provoking conversation with seasoned dentist, Dr. Paul Goodman. We delve into Paul's extraordinary journey, highlighting how engaging a people coach early in his career spurred the creation of a positive work environment and nurtured accountability among his team. However, Paul candidly admits to an overlooked aspect – a keen focus on the numbers – and stresses the value of having a professional guide the financial trajectory of the dental practice. As the conversation deepens, we examine the boundaries of third-party software and its ability to interpret data, advocating the need for an unbiased coach or consultant. Dr. Goodman clearly illustrates the pivotal role of a balanced approach towards managing both the people and profit aspects of your dental practice. And how, as an incredible ripple effect, this can significantly transform the patient-care experience while amplifying profits. He concludes by sharing practical advice on maintaining consistency with essential practices like morning huddles and team meetings, and the importance of reverting back to basic principles to deliver excellent patient care. What's one piece of advice you can give us this Monday morning? Paul: Thanks for asking me that. It's really such a great question. As a medium aged dentist, so I'm going to graduate in 2002. One thing I, I, there's this list my coach taught me, Michael, keep doing, start doing and stop doing. So one thing that I am glad I did early in my career earlier than most dentists was I hired a people coach. I hired a team management coach. I was very into creating a culture. that I knew how to run it. I knew how to manage people. I knew how to develop accountability, and I will forever be grateful for both that coach and myself. I'll give myself credit for paying attention to the morale of the people that work in our dental office. The piece of advice that I wish I did that I did not do was I did not hire someone to take a hard look at the numbers inside of my dental practice. I was much more into feelings. I worked with my amazing dad. Uh, who is a fantastic mentor and friend, passed away in 2016, um, another person I'll forever be grateful to. But his generation of dentists, they're kind of like, ah, we take some insurance, keeps us busy, you know, and we were, I was not paying attention to the write offs, the adjustments. We were making excuses and I wish, Michael, that I paid more attention to the numbers earlier in my career. So that I could have been more patient centered,...

So talk to us. What's one piece of advice you can give us this Monday morning. Daniel: So my advice that I've always lived in is, to start with the end in mind, I think a lot, what I've done in business and personal, and I know it was a lot of help. People have done this, but what I, what I mean by that is when you can visualize what you want at the end of what you're doing. So let's say it's a race school or starting your dental office, whatever it is, is what do you want to end up with? So do you want to end up with? Five offices or you want to be a single practice owner. Um, and you want to just be a small little office and make, be a 2, 000, 000 office. But start with that 2, 000, 000 in mind instead of saying, I'm going to start here because then what you do, you can plan out to it. So it's like I do with my goals. All my goals is, is what do I want to accomplish at the end? And then I work my way backwards. And so I say, okay, if I'm going to run, so like I was talking a little bit, we ran the Disney half marathon. So I start with my time. I know I have to run 13. 1 miles. I want my time to be this. And then I work backwards. How do I get my time through workouts and training to get my end goal? Does that make sense? Same with the practice. So if I want to be a 2 million practice, what does that look like? Can I do it with one op, or do I need five ops? Do I need one hygienist? Do I need three hygienists? And then plan it backwards and go backwards. So if it's a 2 million office or a 5 million office, how does that look? I'm going to have to hire an associate sometime. So you have to plan that and get that all planned out. willing to be flexible. You know, I think the thing with when you start with Indian mind is you have to be very, very flexible knowing things are going to come. We all know life goes ups and downs. And so when you, but, but when you have your end goal, it gives you something to shoot for. And my thing is I always shoot for bold. So like my Indian mind...

Kyle: Yeah, I think, uh, the biggest advice that I have really for any dentist is to focus on mastering your mental and relational health because I think that's the most effective way to ensure sustainable success in dentistry. I think so many of us focus on our clinical abilities way too much when I talk to dentists from all over the world, that's not really what they struggle with. They struggle with their mental health, their relational health, with their team, with their patients. So, so that would be my advice. Michael: Can you kind of elaborate a little bit more on that because how can we, I guess, How did you, sharpen your mental Kyle: health? Yeah, number one, I put effort into it. , I had never even thought about it. I was at a very deep, you know, dark point in my career where I wanted to quit dentistry. And so I really had to make it a priority. And what I'm trying to get across in so much of my, my lectures and my research and my courses is that don't get to the point where I was right. Don't, uh, you know, like in dentistry we always say. Preventative medicine is the best medicine, right? And we talk about coming in for cleanings regularly, and getting radiographs regularly, so we can catch lesions that are very small, and do minimally invasive dentistry. However, with our own mental and physical health, most of us wait until it's a full mouth rehabilitation with orthognathic surgery and sinus lifts and zygomas. So, don't wait for your own mental well being to be this full mouth rehabilitation. Do the daily habits and make, make it a priority. Michael: So then right now to not get to the deep dark point and stop before there, what's like, I guess, one exercise we can implement. Or a couple exercises that you recommend you start implementing like Kyle: today. Yeah, so like with my, um, you know, the people that I mentor, I, we have something called the dream sequence, which is diet, relationships, exercise, appreciation, meditation, and sleep. And so you can pick any of those, but if we just want to make it very simple, get at least seven hours of sleep a night. I mean, that sounds so simple, but when I was at my very dark point, I wasn't doing that. I was staying up late,...

So one piece of advice, for this Monday morning episode is something I found. so I follow someone on LinkedIn, Eric Partaker, really great guy. He's a great person on coaching people on how to be a CEO. And I'm going to share my screen now. So if you're watching, or if you're listening to this on podcast, you can continue to listen, right. But at the same time, I want to show you Just so you can see it. So This is a little bit might be controversial might not be but exit interviews my opinion Same I've kind of read from this guy is exit interviews are reactive and they're too late And here's why you should use something called stay interviews Adam Grant Advocates the use of stay interviews Adam Grant is famous author and he's written a lot a lot of books but he advocates To use stay S T A Y interviews over exit interviews to retain your best people. It's an essential tool for every leader to make the most of your top talent. Now there's six powerful questions for you, to use during the stay interview, right? That means, your employees still. You assume that they still love their job. You haven't really seen that they've given you signs of quitting or anything like that. You know, you just, they're just great people. They're a great employee and you want to keep them happy. You want to keep your best people. So here's the six questions and then I'm going to dive a little bit deeper on each question. Number one, what do you enjoy most about your role? Two, what challenges could I help you with? Three, what would you love to learn to help you grow for? How fulfilled are you on a scale of one to 10 in your role? Five, what would you change about our company goals? And then six, what's one thing I could do to be a better leader. Now, uh, I'm going to keep the questions on here in case you want to write them down, but I'm going to go a little bit deeper into them. So if we go back to one, right the first question is, what do you most enjoy about your role? And this is a really, really easy place to start, especially if you are doing the stay interview, right? Just ask them, And then celebrate their successes and focus on their strengths, right? Everything they've done, focus on their strengths and then create more opportunities for them to do more of what they enjoy. So if they're like, I really love talking to the patients when they come in and saying hi and offering them coffee and also create more opportunities for them. So that's number one. Number two, what challenges or frustrations could I help you with Recognize that, you know, it's not always smooth sailing. That's what...

MME: Dr. Alan Mead | How to Reclaim Your Focus in a Fast-Paced Multitasking World

Let's debunk the myth of multitasking together! ‍ You can reach out to Dr. Alan Mead here: Website: https://meadfamilydental.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/alanmead Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/very_dental_podcast/ ‍ Mentions and Links: Tools/Software: QuickbooksBlack and White IOS Setting‍ If you want your questions answered on Monday Morning Episodes, ask me on these platforms: My Newsletter: https://thedentalmarketer.lpages.co/newsletter/ The Dental Marketer Society Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2031814726927041 ‍ Episode Transcript (Auto-Generated - Please Excuse Errors) ‍ Michael: Hey, Alan. So talk to us. What's one piece of advice you can give us this Monday morning? Alan: So when I got your invite, I wanted to make sure that I, I came up with something maybe a little different than what I've said before. so podcasters and people who listen to podcasts. are the only real people I think that, that can actually do multitasking in real life. So, my, my, uh, my advice is to, to stop trying to multitask. And I'll tell you, multitasking is actually a myth. I, it's not talked about as much now as it used to be, but I remember probably 10 years ago, man, it was all about, multitasking. You have to be doing, you know, 10 things at once all the time to be productive and all that stuff. But what's really interesting is when you think about what multitasking is, it's like one person that's able to do or think about or whatever, multiple things at the same time. computers are really good at this, right? Like that's why we invented computers. They can run different processes all at the same time. And the more processing power, the more things you can do humans, because we only have so much focus really are not good at this. what we're really doing is we're just switching our focus really quickly. And what happens in my experience is that it's just tasks switching rather than doing multiple tasks. And it seems like for tasks that, okay, you can do this. A little bit when you are, when one of the tasks is something that's already automatic, for instance, why can you listen to a podcast and totally concentrate on it when you're driving to work? Because you've driven to work a million times and you know, you've been driving for how many years and it's just kind of automatic. And so you can actually concentrate on the thing. But if you try something like I, I, this is my classic thing. I'll get on the phone with a friend and then I'll sit down at my desk and I'll try and answer emails while I'm having a conversation. I can't do it. what I ended up having to do is say, you know what? I'm distracted as heck. I got to call you back because I got to get this thing done. I can't do it at the same time. And if you think you can, you're probably doing both of them really poorly. I mean, that's the, you know, so, so the only real multitasking I think is if you're able to listen to something while you're like driving or doing exercise or yard work or something like that. And thus as podcasters, we kind of love that because We can actually kind of participate in, in the only real multitasking, but like for tasks that require real focus, I don't think it's possible. I don't know. You might push back on, I just don't think that there's such a thing that you can really...

So talk to us about reputation management. What advice, suggestions, or methods can you give us that will actually help us attract new patients this way, or just help us overall with Zeke: our reputation management? Yeah. Thanks, Michael. Appreciate it having me join today. Um, well first let's, let's just define what reputation management really means. So we, the way I look at reputation management, there's really two parts of it. There's first like managing your actual reputation or, you know, monitoring what people are saying about you on public forums like Google or Facebook or Yelp or health grades, whatever it might be. And then there's what I consider reputation or review solicitation, which is the act of like. Getting more reviews or more feedback from patients on those same review side. So when you talk about reputation management, I look at as twofold monitoring and managing and learning and getting feedback, but also the proactive approach of making sure that your patients. Are frequently, you know, getting the opportunity to deliver reviews, whether that's via text message or email or QR code or whatever it might be. So I like stating that first, because at the end of the day, like those are what, what swell does, and that's kind of how we felt practices grow on their digital footprint and build a reputation. but also giving them tools to help manage that along the way and get feedback and better improve the patient experience, et cetera. So that's kind of my definition of, of, of reputation management. And then at the end of the day, like it really comes down to, and you know, you might've heard me say this on other podcasts or in speeches I've given, but like, Your practice is only as good as Google says it is. And so what I really mean by that is you could be either a startup, a brand new startup practice, you know, a fresh provider right out of school, or you could be a 15 year old veteran that's been serving thousands of patients for those years. In reality, if Google says that you're a 4. 2 or a 3. 9 practice, or you have a 5. 0 score and very few reviews, You're really not that credible to the potential consumers or patients that find you online. And so when you really think about what reputation management means and why it helps practices grow and get new patients and you can build a business really around that, it really comes down to if you look good on Google, which is king of search engines, king of search in general,...

So talk to us about reputation management. How can we utilize this or what advice suggestions or methods can you give us that will actually help attract new patients through this form Len: of management? So first off, thanks for having me. Number one, uh, number two, I will start off by saying, I am not a fan of the term reputation management. Reputation management is in my opinion, an old marketing term.
