As we discuss direct object pronouns, remember that they "remplace" or replace nouns in sentences! Direct objects are nouns or pronouns that receive the action of the verb. Elle mange la pomme. (She eats the apple.) J'adore ce livre. (I love this book.) Direct object pronouns replace direct objects to avoid repetition. Elle la mange. (She eats it.) J'adore celui-ci. (I love this one.) French has different forms of direct object pronouns depending on the gender and number of the noun they replace. Le (masculine singular), La (feminine singular), Les (plural) In affirmative sentences, direct object pronouns usually come before the verb. Il l'a vu. (He saw her.) Je les ai trouvés. As we delve into the future tense, remember that "avenir" holds the key to discussing future events! The future tense is used to express actions that will happen in the future. J'irai au parc demain. (I will go to the park tomorrow.) Il mangera du gâteau ce soir. (He will eat cake tonight.) Regular verbs are conjugated by adding specific endings to the infinitive form of the verb. Parler (to speak) becomes je parlerai (I will speak). Finir (to finish) becomes tu finiras (you will finish). Irregular verbs have unique stems in the future tense. Aller (to go) becomes j'irai (I will go). Avoir (to have) becomes tu auras (you will have). Regular verbs follow a predictable pattern in conjugation. As we discuss the passé composé, remember that "raconté" exemplifies how we use this tense to narrate events! The passé composé is used to talk about completed actions or events in the past. The passé composé is typically formed with an auxiliary verb (either "avoir" or "être") and a past participle.
