He is Chairman Emeritus of the English-Speaking Union (HK). Dr Gillian Bickley, PhD (Leeds), M.Litt, BA (Hons), CertEd (Brist), FRSA, has had a career mainly as an academic, with university positions in different countries, teaching Literature in English. She is a published poet and writer, regularly sharing her work with the public, and has considerable experience in adjudicating and examining oral performance. Together, Gillian and Verner are Co-Founders of the annual International Proverse Prizes for unpublished writing submitted in English. The wide-ranging poems to enjoy, chosen by Verner Bickley, are by many different, varied writers, some world-famous. Older students and adults can thoroughly enjoy Poems to Enjoy Book 4, finding long-familiar and also new poems.
