Infections in the mouth and have negative health effects in other parts of the body. It has become accepted that periodontal disease is a risk factor for heart disease. What is not accepted by the American Dental Association is that root canal teeth also pose a similar systemic risk. Root canal teeth are never sterilized, become more infected over time, and the bacteria and toxins can disseminate to other sites in the body causing or contributing to disease.
