Although these characters may be unfamiliar to English speakers, they are household names in many countries around the world. In Spanish-speaking countries, Pérez the Mouse is akin to the Tooth Fairy, which is why he's also frequently called the Tooth Mouse ("El Ratón de los Dientes" in Spanish). This translation is an abridged version of Luis Coloma's original short story, Ratón Pérez, first published in Spain in 1911.
