How Is Dark Money Infecting Our Politics?

5/30/2023
Despite being eight months away from the presidential primaries, campaign ads started airing months ago. These various TV spots are not always funded by candidates but instead by dark money. Fox Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram explained that dark money is simply funds spent on political speech for which you don't know who the donors are. He joins the Rundown to explain the impact that dark money has in our politics as it is unregulated by the Federal Election Commission, how major past Supreme Court decisions paved the way for this kind of campaign spending to become popular in politics, and how some politicians use dark money to circumvent campaign rules while some lawmakers are working to create legislative safeguards that would curb the power of dark money. By 2030, President Joe Biden aims to make fifty percent of all new vehicle sales electric. However, many car manufacturers recently announced they are looking to remove AM radio capability from future electric models. After bipartisan backlash citing the importance of AM radio to America's emergency infrastructure, Ford and Lincoln have decided they will not move forward with this plan and will continue to preserve AM radio functionality. The higher-end car manufacturers say that this is just another update to dashboards, yet many are hesitant to phase out the technology. Publisher of TALKERS Magazine, Michael Harrison, joins the Rundown for a conversation about why the AM frequency is necessary to reach rural parts of the country, his belief that the car manufacturers did not fully think through what is lost if AM radio goes away, and why he thinks AM radio won't fade away any time soon. Honoring Our History and Fallen Heroes On Memorial Day

5/29/2023
On Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who served the U.S. military and tragically sacrificed their lives on behalf of the nation's freedom. America has a long history of celebrating our fallen heroes and recounting their courageous battles. In "The Lost Victory: Tet 1968!" streaming now on FOX Nation, Pete Hegseth walks the audience through the surprise attack that laid siege against American forces in Vietnam and why it became such a momentous event during the Vietnam War. Fox & Friends Weekend co-host and Army National Guard veteran Pete Hegseth joins the podcast to explain how the Tet offensive changed Americans' perception of the Vietnam War and the unkind treatment Vietnam War veterans received when they returned to the country. He later explains the importance of remembering our history, valuing what Memorial Day parades are really for, and what inspired him to serve his country. Retired Marine Cole Lyle has experienced the nightmares, PTSD, and anxiety attacks that plague many veterans every day, leading many to take their own lives. After losing friends and battling suicidal thoughts himself, Lyle is now committed to providing veterans with the resources and support they need to recover their self-worth, serving as the President of the Working Warrior Foundation. In honor of Memorial Day, Lyle joins the Rundown to discuss different ways Americans can take meaningful action to help veterans, what steps he takes to help veterans in crisis, and the story of how his service dog Kaya inspired him to create 'Kaya's K9s,' which seeks to help veterans in need of veterinary assistance for service dogs. Extra: How The 2024 GOP Primary Is Starting To Look A Lot Like 2016

5/28/2023
After months of anticipation, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially announced his 2024 presidential campaign from Miami, Florida this past week. The popular Republican governor is clearly the biggest threat to former President Trump, who has a big lead in the primary polls. But like in 2016, having a viable opponent could actually prove to be a benefit to Trump. Shortly after Gov. DeSantis used Twitter to jump in to the race, host Lisa Brady spoke with Daron Shaw, Co-Director of the Fox News Poll and professor at The University of Texas at Austin, about the DeSantis impact on the GOP field, his campaign strategy so far, and how he or anyone can overcome Trump's commanding lead in the polls. Shaw discussed how he expected the other Republican candidates to respond to Gov. DeSantis and his 'glitchy' entrance in to the race. He also explained why it was more likely the Gov. DeSantis, not Trump, would be the main target of the Republicans vying to be the nominee. Due to time limitations, we could not include the entire conversation in the FOX News Rundown segment that ran this week. In a FOX News Rundown Extra exclusive, you will hear our entire unedited interview with Co-Director of the Fox News poll Daron Shaw and get his complete breakdown of how the 2024 race so far. Extra: Miami Mayor Suarez Talks DeSantis vs Disney, Potential 2024 Bid, And Ethics Investigation

5/27/2023
Governor Ron DeSantis made a big splash this week when he officially jumped in to the 2024 Presidential race. However, he may not be the only Florida Republican who wants to make a bid for the White House. Miami mayor Francis Suarez joined host Dave Anthony this week to discuss why he too is considering a run for the presidency and why he thinks he'd be a better pick than anyone in the field including the popular governor of his state. In fact, the Republican even took a shot at DeSantis by criticizing his ongoing feud with Disney. Suarez also weighed in on the NAACP's recent Florida travel advisory, the ethics investigation into his work for a real estate developer, and why he thinks the Sunshine State has seen so much growth over the years. From Washington: Congress Makes Final Push For Debt Limit Deal

5/27/2023
A deal to lift the debt limit has yet to be reached as Congress continues talks with the White House. Earlier this week, Speaker McCarthy said that some progress was made amid negotiations with President Biden, who has long claimed that he would be unwilling to make concessions to lift the deal. The U.S. is now only days away from potentially defaulting on its debt, meaning the country would no longer have the cash needed in order to meet its financial obligations. FOX Senior Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram discusses where each party stands ahead of the looming debt ceiling deadline, as well as the timeline for Congress to strike a deal. President Joe Biden stated that the United States will support an effort to train Ukrainian fighter pilots on the F-16 aircraft during the G7 meeting last week. According to DoD officials, there is no information on where the aircraft will come from or when they will be delivered. Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Rep. Michael McCaul (TX-10) explains that this process could take months, criticizing the Biden Administration for the delay in this training and stresses how crucial it could have been in the counter-offensive that Ukraine could launch as early as the end of this month. Is Another Florida Republican Joining The 2024 Race?

5/26/2023
After months of anticipation, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially announced his 2024 presidential campaign from Miami, Florida on Wednesday evening. The state has become a hotbed for political controversy with the NAACP, Equality Florida, and the League of United Latin American Citizens all issuing travel advisories for the state, alleging to their members that the state's conservative policies showed the state "has become hostile" for minorities. Republican Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez believes this advisory is nothing more than a political stunt. Mayor Suarez joins the Rundown and shares his opinions on Governor DeSantis' 2024 campaign and discusses why he is still weighing whether or not he will join the GOP primary race as well. Despite two more candidates announcing their campaigns this week, former President Trump remains the front-runner Republican candidate in the polls. The Republican leadership has been focused on expanding their voter base ahead of the 2024 election in hopes that they can gain control of the House, Senate, and White House in the coming years. FOX News Sunday host Shannon Bream joins the podcast to discuss how former President Trump may navigate his GOP front-runner status as more candidates continue to join the field, what main policy issues will broaden the tent for Republican voters, and the latest on Supreme Court news and debt ceiling negotiations. His first announcement, hosted by Elon Musk on Twitter Spaces, was preceded by technical difficulties – prompting confusion & criticism from many before his initial kick-off. The long-anticipated campaign announcement makes the Florida governor the ninth Republican candidate in the race, making for a crowded GOP primary fight come February. The new candidate will likely impact which way voters are leaning in the polls, and here to break it all down is co-Director of the Fox News Poll and professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Daron Shaw. White House and The GOP Agree…On Fighting Fentanyl

5/24/2023
The Biden administration voiced public support for the HALT Fentanyl Act, first introduced by two GOP congressmen, which would permanently classify all fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs and would prioritize giving law enforcement the tools to slow the trafficking of this lethal substance. In 2022, America saw over 100,000 overdoses, and 75,000 of those were estimated to be due to illegal fentanyl. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) was one of the lawmakers who first sponsored this bill, and he joins the podcast to explain how his legislation will confront the rampant fentanyl production that is costing U.S. lives, why classifying fentanyl as a Schedule I drug will give the government more authority to crack down on traffickers, and the underlying issues driving this synthetic opioid crisis. May is mental health awareness month, and the U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, issued a warning on Tuesday, calling social media a ‘profound risk’ to America’s youth and responsible for recent years' rising rates of depression and anxiety. Some states are taking the initiative to place guardrails, like in Arkansas, where the state government passed the Social Media Safety Act, requiring social media platforms to verify users’ age and request parental permission. The minimum age listed to access many of these websites is thirteen; however, Dr. Murthy argues that is way too young. Licensed psychotherapist and the author of the new book, "Raising Healthy Teenagers," Tom Kersting, joins the podcast to talk about why social media is contributing to the youth mental health crisis in America, how legislation would address social media’s unhealthy impact, and what parents can do to prioritize their children’s mental health. How Will Tim Scott Stack Up In The GOP Primary Race?

5/23/2023
The 2024 GOP candidate field is widening this week as Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) officially launched his presidential campaign on Monday, and reports suggest Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to announce his candidacy this week as well. As the list of Republican candidates grows, campaigning and fundraising will be sure to heat up soon. Filings show Senator Scott has entered the race with more funds than any of his competitors, with $22 million on hand, while the current leading candidate, former President Trump, only had $14 million in his campaign’s war chest by the end of March. Former Deputy Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush and Fox News contributor Karl Rove joins the podcast to analyze the Senator’s chances of winning the nomination and how his positive message contradicts the narrative pushed by the left. A recently unsealed court filing revealed the FBI had improperly used warrantless search powers on U.S. citizens over 278,000 times, looking into Americans involved in the Capitol riot, George Floyd protests, and more. FBI Director Wray spoke on this revelation, saying the FBI's misusing Section 702 of FISA was a mistake that drove the bureau to make stricter changes to the system. Some lawmakers are not trusting these mistakes won’t happen again, saying they want to see even tighter restrictions on the bureau’s warrantless search tool, which should only be allowed to acquire intelligence on foreign targets. Retired FBI Special Agent John Iannarelli joins the Rundown to discuss how he believes this surveillance tool came to be misused by the FBI, the threat posed by politicization within the bureau, and what the intelligence organization must do to regain the trust of the American people. With the federal government's June 1st debt ceiling deadline fast approaching, President Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy will meet later today to continue negotiations on a deal to raise the debt ceiling. Over the weekend, talks stalled as Republican negotiators turned down a White House offer to limit spending on both defense and domestically. Republicans looked for more defense spending with greater domestic concessions. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) joins Mike Emanuel on the FOX News Rundown to discuss the latest in the negotiations. Extra: The Durham Report And The Mainstream Media's "Eroded" Credibility

5/21/2023
The final Durham report was released this past week. Special Counsel John Durham concluded there was no justification for the FBI to even launch an investigation into whether former President Trump colluded with Russia during the 2016 campaign. Conservatives maintain the report proved bias and corruption at the agency. The mainstream media and Democrats dismissed the findings and said the years-long Durham probe was a waste of time. After the reporter was released, Howie Kurtz, the host of "MediaBuzz," joined FOX News Rundown host Dave Anthony to not just discuss the Durham Report's findings but how the media responded. Kurtz was not surprised that many in the 'mainstream press' called it a 'dud' as many of them were obsessed with the Russian collusion story at the time and wouldn't want to acknowledge they were wrong. The host of the 'Media BUZZmeter' podcast also discussed how the media's credibility has never recovered from their coverage of the Trump-Russia investigation and why he thinks it would take a major bombshell for them to give the Hunter Biden scandal comparable coverage. Due to time limitations, we could not include the entire conversation in the FOX News Rundown segment that ran this week. 5/20/2023
Shark Tank's Kevin O'Leary made a name for himself cutting deals and making businesses wildly successful. But what would "Mr. Wonderful" do to save a company that appears to be stuck in a weeks-long tailspin? Bud Light is still paying the price over its partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. While intended to promote the beer's brand on social media, the branding move outraged conservatives and resulted in a nationwide boycott that continues to hurt the beer companies' sales. O'Leary Ventures Chairman Kevin O'Leary recently joined host Dave Anthony on The FOX News Rundown to discuss the crisis Bud Light created for itself and what Anheuser-Busch executives must do now to address the ongoing backlash. O'Leary explained why he felt so many Americans were put off by Bud Light's Mulvaney deal and what key things they overlooked when they decided to pay the trans TikTok star to endorse their beer.
