It follows the final public testimony session that happened last night. Philadelphia International Airport's Terminal D is expected to switch back from generator power to their regular system today, after two power outages disrupted travel over the busy holiday weekend. Philadelphia is sending 28 teams to national cheerleading and football championships, thanks in part to what the mayor called “historic” city funding for youth sports. It's the start of a week dedicated to Philly's favorite fictional hero...That's right, it's Rocky Day!

A gynecologist in New Jersey is being accused of inappropriately touching at least two of his patients. Police across the Philadelphia suburbs are warning about an uptick in burglaries and break-ins of high-end homes. Residents of Center City and South Philadelphia will now have their trash collected twice a week, under a pilot program aimed at keeping streets cleaner.

Man wanted for killing, burying ex-girlfriend in shallow grave in Northeast park

Philadelphia police and the U-S Marshals are looking for the man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and burying her body in a Fox Chase playground about a month ago. The law enforcement team with the Pennsylvania SPCA is investigating a shooting of a dog in the Eastwick neighborhood Southwest Philadelphia. City officials celebrated the kick-off of a pilot program of twice-weekly trash collections in Center City and South Philadelphia. SEPTA’s plan to overhaul its bus network was put on hold last month, as deep service cuts were threatened for next year. But do the changes have the green light now that Governor Shapiro has provided stopgap funding for SEPTA? KYW’s Mike DeNardo takes a look.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local, Saturday, November 30, 2024 (Midday Edition) An overnight power outage caused delays for several airlines at Philly International Airport. KYW’s Sunny Morgan was there at Terminal D speaking to passengers who’ve been waiting for hours until power came back on Saturday afternoon. A fire this (SAT) morning in North Philadelphia has left at least one person dead. Officials say the fire started around 4:30, in a three-story apartment building near 17th and York streets. According to authorities, the fire broke out on the second floor. One man was found in a third-floor bedroom and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials reported no other injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Today is small business Saturday, and store owners are slashing prices to encourage more customers to buy their goods. Tomorrow, December 1st, SEPTA's first fare increase in seven years will take effect. The SEPTA Board approved the 7-and-a-half-percent hike last week following public hearings in October. Now the Travel Wallet fares on buses, subways, and trolleys will be two-fifty ($2.50)--same as the cash fare. And most single-trip fares on Regional Rail will increase as well. But all daily, weekly, and monthly passes will stay the same price. SEPTA expects the fare adjustments to generate more than 14 million dollars in additional annual revenue. Last Friday, Governor Josh Shapiro announced stopgap funding that allowed SEPTA to postpone a more-than-21-percent fare increase that was slated to start on January 1st. Spring Garden Whole Foods could become the first store to unionize

Workers at the Whole Foods on Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia could become the first in the chain to join a union. Philadelphia Police are investigating after a stabbing at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on Friday night sent two men to the hospital with wounds. Authorities say the double happened just before 7:30. A 30-year-old suffered three stab wounds to the back. He was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital and is in stable condition. The other man, 31, suffered a stab wound to the head and was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale by Philadelphia Fire Department medics. Weapons were recovered by investigators. The Philadelphia Museum of Art is not only offering area schools a chance to see its latest exhibition, but throwing in a ride there and back. The Thomas Jefferson University women’s soccer team has advanced to regional finals of the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in program history.

Wednesday is one of the busiest travel days of the year, as people are hitting the roads, rails and the skies to get to their Thanksgiving destinations. Residents of Brith Sholom House apartments, who fought to improve conditions so they could stay in the West Philadelphia building, will have to move after all. The Philadelphia Housing Authority, which bought the building, says it must be gutted in order to be saved. Preparations and rehearsals are underway for Philadelphia’s 105th Thanksgiving Day Parade. Chutatip “Nok” Suntaranon, the Philadelphia chef who serves traditional Thai cuisine out of her Fishtown restaurant Kalaya, is the subject of a new documentary episode on Netflix.

Mayor Parker reiterated her support for the project at a community meeting in Mount Airy. A Philadelphia woman was found dead by one of her sons and police are now trying to figure out what happened to her. Norristown Police Chief Jaqueline Bailey-Davis has been placed on administrative leave. However, Norristown officials won't say why. The Community College of Philadelphia is making it easier for their scholarship students to transfer to Temple.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker announced two new department heads replacing people who are leaving or who recently left. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is cracking down on crimes against the city's elderly population.

Police have six teenagers from the same school in custody on charges they randomly attacked people last Tuesday afternoon in Center City. A Bristol Township man accused of drugging and sexually assaulting women he met online is facing additional charges after six more women stepped forward. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has appointed a new budget director and a new chief of Human Resources but she says she won’t be rushed on naming commissioners for the Health and Behavioral Health Departments. Crimes against the elderly often go unreported. Monday, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office opened up the application process for a new round of violence prevention grants for nonprofit organizations that support elderly victims. Outdoor dining is here to stay in New Jersey. Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law Monday, making permanent some of the outdoor accommodations that became popular during COVID-19 restrictions on indoor seating capacity.
