The Flagship Show: A Chat With Patreon Member Steve Karpicz

2/8/2024
Today we present part one of a brand new chat between host Erik Woods and Patreon member Steve Kapicz on THE FLAGSHIP SHOW on the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. Steve is one of three CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST patrons who signed up for the exclusive top COMPOSER TIER at the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST Patreon. He took advantage of the tier's exclusive perk to co-host a program with Erik Woods and play whatever music he wanted. As with Joe Wiles' episodes, and William Welch's episodes, Steve and Erik talked for a considerable time, so the show has been split into two parts. During this episode, William and Erik talk about choral scores, among other things. During the show, you will hear selections from FIRST KNIGHT (Goldsmith), THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER (Poledouris), THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS (Davis), and EVIL DEAD (Banos). The Archive with Jason Drury: A Tribute To Mike Ross-Trevor

1/17/2024
On Tuesday, January 2, 2024, the film music community lost one of its greatest recording engineers, Mike Ross-Trevor. His collaborations with composers such as Jerry Goldsmith and Bruce Broughton have become legendary in the film music world. Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Mike in February 2018 for the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. The two show shows can be heard at cinematicsound.net It was with great sadness that Jason learned of Mike's passing since he had many happy recollections of their interview and Mike has remained a close friend. So, Jason decided to produce a new program by utilizing remastered interview clips from 2018 and by playing some of the fantastic music that Mike was associated with. To give the program a distinct and intimate feel, Mike Ross-Trevor will be the only voice heard throughout, narrating his own recording career and sharing a few memories of the amazing sessions he worked on. Enjoy! —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Rudy Amaya, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Michael Poteet, Nathan Blumenfeld, Daniel Herrin, Mike Kohutich, Scott Bordelon, James Alexander —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. The Flagship Show: 2023 Christmas Special

12/24/2023
In today's program, it's our 2023 CHRISTMAS SPECIAL. We've been putting this show together annually since 2018. Before we begin, I want to personally offer my thanks to the great team here at the CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST. Fourty-five new shows, including this one, went out this year, not including any new shows that go up until the end of the year. We passed the 500,000 downloads mark and we are 45,000 downloads away from 600,000 all time. We made it back to FM radio, albeit briefly. If I can remember correctly, only one episode went on the air at BUTE ISLAND RADIO before the s__t the fan! I’m hoping to get back on the FM dial sometime in 2024. I think that’s where the show ultimately belongs—at least a show with this format—so I just need to find a place that wants me. We've been ranking in the top 200 all over the world. Today we are #6 in Cyprus. Thanks to all of our listeners in Cyprus! The point is, people are still listening and I owe much of our success to ... Jason Drury, Eric Silver, J. Blake Fichera, Robert Daniels, Randy Andrew, the voice of CSR Tim Burden, in-house composer David Coscina, and Ley Bricknell. And of course, I cannot forget you... the listener... thank you very much for spending some time with us today! So let's get into the program, and as we did over the past SIX years, this show is a collaborative effort. Each participating host will get a segment of their own on the program to play whatever festival score they see fit. On today's program, four CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO PODCAST hosts join me again to celebrate the holiday season by playing Christmas-themed music from a wide variety of film, TV and video game scores. Join Jason Drury from THE ARCHIVE & TALKING SOUNDTRACKS, J. Blake Fichera from SCORED TO DEATH RADIO, Randy Andrews from THE ANIME SPECTACULAR & THE ESSENTIAL SOUNDTRACKS, Eric Silver from THE 1UPBEAT, and me, Erik Woods, for our annual Yuletide spectacular. On the show today, you are going to hear selections from DEN FØRSTE JULEN I SKOMAKERGATA aka CHRISTMAS IN COBBLER STREET (Storaas), HOOK (Williams), ROCKY IV (Dicola), PREP AND LANDING (Giacchino), HOGWART'S LEGACY (Rakozy) and a special gift at the end of the show. Talking Soundtracks: Interview with Kristian Sensini

12/10/2023
MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH MARRIAGE follows Zelma on her 23-year quest for perfect love and lasting marriage, set against a backdrop of historic events in Eastern Europe. Told from a woman’s point of view, the film blends historical, biological, societal, and emotional arcs with a lively sense of humour and musical numbers. This animated film for adults tackles the issues of love, gender norms, domestic violence, fantasies, and toxic relationships to propel a woman's journey toward independence and liberation. The score for the film is by composer, pianist, flautist, and music producer Kristian Sensini. Jason Drury had the opportunity to speak with Kristian via Cleanfeed in November 2023 for TALKING SOUNDTRACKS from his residence in Rome, Italy. They discussed his music for MY LOVE AFFAIR WITH MARRIAGE, and Jason played selections from this unique score. Talking Soundtracks: Interview with Ian MacDonald - The Music of John Barry

11/10/2023
The late, legendary composer John Barry was due to turn 90 on November 3, 2023. With host, Jason Drury and John Barry enthusiast Ian MacDonald, CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is happy to present a special edition of TALKING SOUNDTRACKS in honour of this occasion. The show's delights include music for THE LADY IN WHITE (Varese Sarabande Records) by composer/director Frank Laloggia, Krzysztof Komeda’s unusual work for Roman Polanski’s 1967 film THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS (Power Bros Records) as well as Ennio Morricone’s excellent score for the not-so-excellent EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC (Warner Bros. Records). Jason and Jon also put under the spotlight music from Bronislau Kaper’s 1954 score for THEM (Monstrous Movie Music Records) and the classic Hammer horror with James Bernard’s main theme from DRACULA (Silva Screen). You'll also hear a suite from DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS (Silva Screen) as well as Bruno Nicolai's theme for II CONTE DRACULA (Digitmovies). The show finishes off in a lighter mood by playing a selection from LOVE AT FIRST BITE (Intrada Records) by Charles Bernstein. Talking Soundtracks: Interview with Panu Aaltio

10/26/2023
Today's guest on TALKING SOUNDTRACKS has composed music for more than thirty feature films, several TV shows, video games, and a lengthy ballet performed by the Finnish National Opera. His name is Panu Aaltio. Panu is most recognized for his poignant work on major nature documentaries, but his lyrical orchestral sound has also adorned dramatic scores, including SUPER FURBALL SAVES THE FUTURE and the exciting Baltic Sea adventure FINDERS OF THE LOST YACHT. Another of his recent projects is 5000 Blankets, released in the US at the end of 2022, which follows the story of a woman and her young son, who set out to find her husband when he goes missing after having a mental breakdown, which sparks a movement in their city. Jason Drury had the pleasure of speaking with Panu via cleanfeed in Helsinki, Finland, at the end of January 2023. They discussed his work for television and film, his award-winning music for nature documentaries, his aspirations for the future, and of course, his amazing score for 5000 BLANKETS. Talking Soundtracks: Interview with Leigh Phillips - Part Two

9/2/2023
Leigh Phillips is a composer, orchestrator, and producer with experience in creating unique compositions and orchestrations for media, concert performances, and CD recordings. In May 2023 for TALKING SOUNDTRACKS ON THE CINEMATIC SOUND PODCAST, Jason Drury had the pleasure of talking to Leigh Phillips from his home in Prague. In part one of our two-part conversation Leigh discussed his musical roots, how he got into orchestration work and score reconstruction, and how he began his association with James Fitzpatrick and Tadlow Records. Part two discusses his work on Goldsmith re-recordings such as BLACK PATCH and GENERAL ELECTRIC THEATRE, his thoughts on film music today, and his fears about the employment of artificial intelligence in future film soundtracks. As with part one, you will hear music that Leigh Phillips has orchestrated or composed just for these events to highlight his immense talent. —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Douglas Lacey, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Clint Morgan, Rudy Amaya, Eric Marvin, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Michael Poteet, Nathan Blumenfeld, Daniel Herrin, Mike Kohutich —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN. Bute Island Radio Premiere Episode - Spy Films

8/31/2023
Before I left Bute Island Radio, I produced two complete episodes, with one other episode still in the planning stages. One episode made it to air; the others did not. This was the episode that made it to air. This was the premiere episode of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO for Bute Island Radio. If you are unaware of what transpired with Bute Island Radio, I suggest you read my announcement post HERE and then read my resignation post HERE. For my first episode on Bute Island Radio, I thought I'd take advantage of the popularity of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE and the recent release of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART ONE, and play music from Spy Films. On the program I played selections from MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE (Elfman), MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - DEAD RECKONING PART ONE (Balfe), MUNICH (Williams), NOTORIOUS (Webb), THE IPCRESS FILE (Barry), THE TAILOR OF PANAMA (Davey) and THE RUSSIA HOUSE (Goldsmith). This was the most fun I've had producing a program since my John Williams tribute a few years ago! I hope you enjoy the commentary and the selections. —— Special thanks to our Patreon supporters: Matt DeWater, David Ballantyne, Joe Wiles, Maxime, William Welch, Tim Burden, Alan Rogers, Dave Williams, Max Hamulyák, Jeffrey Graebner, Douglas Lacey, Don Mase, Victor Field, Jochen Stolz, Emily Mason, Eric Skroch, Alexander Schiebel, Alphonse Brown, John Link, Andreas Wennmyr, Matt Berretta, Eldaly Morningstar, Jim Wilson, Glenn McDorman, Chris Malone, Steve Karpicz, Deniz Çağlar, Brent Osterberg, Jérôme Flick, Sarah Brouns, Aaron Collins, Randall Derchan, Angela Rabatin, Michael Poteet, Larry Reese, Thomas Tinneny, William Burke, Clint Morgan, Rudy Amaya, Eric Marvin, Stacy Livitsanis, Rick Laird, Carl Wonders, Michael Poteet, Nathan Blumenfeld, Daniel Herrin, Mike Kohutich —— Cinematic Sound Radio is fully licensed to play music by SOCAN.
