529 - A legendary Les Paul and the Circle of Wahs

9/4/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 529 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - A legendary Les Paul and the Circle of Wahs We open up with an international weather report from the guys and Brian tells us about his mini vacation that saw him make a wild return to nature. Kinda. The big news across the pond is all about Oasis (still) and their ticket prices so the guys debate the policy of surge ticket pricing and supply and demand. Do you have an upper limit to how much you would pay for a concert ticket? Blake reached his when he went to see Pantera and Metallica with his kids and he tells us all about it. He has zero regrets. But he did make an interesting observation about the sound dynamics of the venue and breaks it down to the chaps. Brian talks about his home made hearing protection and Blake solicits the views of an audiologist. MXR have released another signature pedal and this one has magical powers - or so Richard believes - so the guys discuss this and a rather special Flying Vee. Brian is still in love with his Explorer. Richard had band practice and tells us about this and his new pedalboard. He discussed the problems he had with his amp's distortion, his memory, his love of the Gearbox, and his memory. Gilmour tickets, Charlie Benante, Tattooed toddlers, Travis Feaster, Recording idiocy, Germanium JFETS???...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! We are on Patreon now too! 528 - Blake is definitely not mad for it, but Brian is all about the Even Flow

8/28/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 528 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Blake is definitely not mad for it, but Brian is all about the Even Flow Brian is feeling somewhat civilized and Richard has a magical revelation. He is an idiot though. Brian has been to see one of his favorite bands and tells the guys all about it and how he managed to get tickets to the hottest show in town. He has some odd observations that seem to revolve around hygiene. Richard tries to lay some major music news on Blake and it goes down like a lead balloon so he doubles down on the Brit Pop history. This leads him to ruminate over old age, concert going habits, and he gives away some of Brian’s driving secrets. Meanwhile, Blake tells us about the hot sauces he has put in his eyes and Brian gets Rockunized. The guys then get into a very bizarre conversation about wearable guitar gear and I apologize in advance if you feel your IQ being dragged down by this. Origin Effects have just release a new Bluesbreaker pedal and Blake is very excited by it. Richard has been digging into Fender finishes and rarer models and he found a bargain so tells us all about it... 527 - The most important electric guitar performance ever? Also New Guitar Day!

8/21/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 527 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - The most important electric guitar performance ever? Also New Guitar Day! Brian teases a "special private show" and Richard discovers something about his American brethren and it has upset him - but then a lot has this week. More importantly Brian has a brand new guitar! He tells us all about it and some of the unexpected features it has and the guys notice a special twinkle in Brian's eye. Brian also said something outrageous about a classic Fender design and Richard is disturbed. On the 55th anniversary of the Woodstock festival, Richard got a chance to re-watch that infamous Jimi Hendrix performance, and he has views which the guys debate. He also managed to learn something from the master of the Stratocaster and is very proud of himself. Brian also has learned something new - about Pink Floyd - and admits to being a foolish individual and there is talk of school-day shenanigans. Blake has issues. Blake has a very special Metalzone and he tells us all about it and the guys talk about pedal naming schema before getting defeated by a classic pedal name. Brian is expanding his barn and Richard has a new pedal which he thinks is one of the most fun pedals ever. Do fancy IEC cables make a difference to your amps tone? This was a question asked on the tone group so the guys dig in. Giant Cases, Clown Shoes, Jimi Hendrix, Vintage guitar stickers, Chapman Guitars, Randall Smith...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! 526 - Gabe Dalporto, the new CEO of Guitar Center drops in...

8/14/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by Gabe Dalporto, the CEO of Guitar Center for Episode 526 of the Chasing Tone Podcast This week the guys have an exclusive episode for you with a very special guest - Gabe Dalporto. He is the new CEO at Guitar Center and he has probably seen more amazing string, valve, and transistor based toys than most of us can dream of. Gabe's story about his musical family roots, his rather excellent first guitar, and his passion for music is a great story you will want to listen to. Gabe tells us about his music tastes, his writing, and his gigging experiences before he reveals that he is in fact a complete gear nut just like all of us! This turns into a fascinating insight into how Gabe has not just analysed the business he runs, but has lived and breathed Guitar Center since he joined it, and created a vision for a ground up rejuvenation of this retail behemoth. We get a very candid and thoughtful appraisal of the business model of Guitar Center to date and then a glimpse of where it is going and how giant pedalboards will play a role. If you are interested in the music instrument business, heck if you are interested in musical instruments full stop, then this episode does not disappoint. Brian and Blake have some good ideas. Richard makes another Gilmour mistake when he mixes up one guitar with another. Fender, Gibson, PRS, 90lbs of amplification, Nuclear engineering, Disneyland for musicians, No Stairway Allowed...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! We are on Patreon now too! 525 - Sometimes the right song at the right time can impact you like nothing else...

8/7/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 525 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Sometimes the right song at the right time can impact you like nothing else... Blake has been blessed with luck in the form of his son's predictive skills and so is immediately buying a lottery ticket. There have been other pedals released with Germanium components within and this also sparks some conversation. Those pioneers of pedal perfection, Electro Harmonix, have released a new POG. It looks insanely good so the guys talk about it and Richard makes a terrible Dad joke. Blake has a new vintage Gibson guitar acquisition and the guys dig in and discuss some of the electronic quirks and features. Richard wants a new guitar but he has a problem and tells us all about it. Aerosmith have announced the end of their touring career and this almost provokes a sensible discussion. Richard admits his awe for Hendrix. Brian has a proud Dad moment when one of his children makes a music based confession and it has made him very happy. This morphs into a conversation about the pull of music and how people have different emotional levels of involvement with it. Meanwhile, back on planet gear, Neural DSP have revealed details of the robotic device they created to capture amplifier settings more accurately. 524 - Mine some more Germanium!

7/31/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 524 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - Mine some more Germanium! Well it has been a week! We check in with the guys post the release of the Germanium Tumnus Deluxe and it's fair to say that said pedal is the main subject matter of the episode. We told everyone it was coming. It made no difference! The pedal sold out in record time and it caused some website availability issues and Richard and Brian talk about how they got through a crazy week. The guys recall other pedal special editions and Brian gives away some personal secrets before returning to the topic du jour. Richard details some of the server shenanigans and also talks about how stock levels are managed. Blake calls both Richard and Brian names, but they are pretty hardened to it, and gives some interesting statistical analysis of the music industry. There was predictably an almost immediate response by professional flippers so the guys are also duty bound to look into this. Richard got hold of another new pedal and gets the name wrong but he loves it and that's all that matters. It is the boost he has been looking for so he tells us all... 7/24/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 523 of the Chasing Tone Podcast - A new pedal and we broke the internet again... Picture the scene. It is a beautiful summer Tuesday night. The guys are chatting away merrily about a load of random nonsense. Richard is congratulating himself about the launch of the new Wampler website. Brian was farming goats. Blake was, well - the less said about that, the better. Little did Richard realise that 24 hours later his world would be shattered by crazy demand for Wampler's latest release... But that is now and this was then, and we welcome Blake back to the fold from his travels and he tells us about how he jumped off a bridge. Richard has a brand new Internet. Brian does not have a brand new guitar. But he has a new pedal out, and he and Richard discuss it, but neither realise the chaos that was to come... If you own multiple guitars, have you ever played them all in one sitting? The guys chat about what this does for you. Blake has played a bender equipped Tele and tells us all about it. Meanwhile Richard is hankering after some fancy analog effects and he tries to convince Brian with some help from Blake. 7/18/2024
Brian and Richard are joined by Ryan Burke for Episode 522 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Blake is out of town on string business so the guys are joined by Ryan Burke of 60 Cycle hum and his haunted mannequin...yes, you read that correct. This naturally means there is some offset guitar insight - 'offsight' if you will - and Ryan has great advice for anyone weighing up their options. Do you collect pedals as an investment? The guys chat about the ramifications of where the collectable pedal market is going and then of course try to accurately predict the future and along the way they invent a new form of musical currency. Richard has a pedal related confession to make and Brian is thinking about Germanium hearing aids. Ryan has a box full of Afford-a-board pedals and tells us about some of the fun discoveries he has made. Somehow this transitions into a conversation about soccer, surfing, and then of course, surf music and skateboarding! Meanwhile Fender have launched their new Player II range of guitars and our good buddy Travis Feaster got to be part of the launch so we talk about that before looking at some more band practice woes. Blake ducks out early because apparently he like his job, so Brian and Richard fumble on through the subjects...and Brian becomes audibly aroused at a new Gibson special edition. 7/3/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 520 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Our glorious leader has reached a milestone birthday and the chaps kick off by looking back at the Roast video that the team at Wampler put together for him. Richard notes an interesting horological coincidence and Brian gives us his views on aging. In a twist of pure Irony, Brian is struggling to find a compressor, and the guys listen to his tales of woe. Have you got any Tube based drive pedals? In a bizarre twist of fate Brian has decide to educate Richard on the best way to get the "Classic" David Gilmour tone and there is some ill advised political commentary as Richard reviews a recent piece of marketing from a political party. Blake has had some unexpected musical adventures and tells us all about it. Richard has taken delivery of a lifetime's supply of spices and Brian has a request. He also went to see Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets with his schoolfriend and gave pedals to the band. This leads onto a discussion about a very high end delay pedal that commands a premium price. There is a very scary AI credit read from RoboBrian. Bob Ross, Luggable Computers, Fancy Components, Palm Bay guitars, Siri Threepio, Rockonteurs ...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! There's a new Fender artist Telecaster and it has caught the guys' attention so they talk about it before revealing some interesting statistical facts about Brian;'s pedalbuilding career. 518 - The Power of Fuzz Compels You!

6/19/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 518 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Blake has been standing to work for a long time and it is energizing him so the guys discuss the merits of office furniture. Yes, you read that correctly. This turns into a conversation about how you apply Tolex correctly as Richard thinks about building his own amplifier. Do you wait before you switch on the stand-by switch on your amplifier? The guys ponder this age old question. Richard invokes a hellish rebuke from Brian when he tries to convince him that MIDI is the future for amplifier control and a robust and bizarre conversation ensues. Richard has been thinking about digital modelling and Brian is not happy with him, but he and Blake also have some new gear and it somehow involves the Insane Clown Posse. Richard is also worried about taking his favorite combo amplifier to gigs until his personal amp tech intervenes... What size pick do you use when you play guitar? This question provokes a variety of responses from the chaps and Brian desires a new sponsorship. Speaking of Brians, Brian May has just made a not particularly surprising announcement about a collaboration with Gibson. Richard makes bizarre confessions about his follicular obsessions. He is a mean and awful person and tries to explain British humor - badly. 514 - The Wampler Mofetta, The Beach Boys, and Jay Leonard J

5/22/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by the legendary Jay Leonard J for Episode 514 of the Chasing Tone Podcast We start off with some exclusive hair clipping tips from the super talented Jay Leonard J and this eventually turns into a discussion about gain clipping and Wampler's latest release, the Wampler Mofetta. Brian had an idea one day. He loved the Ibanez MT-10 Mostortion but wondered what would happen if he used MOSFETS for clipping. The Mofetta is the culmination of his rumination! Brian asks Jay about his creative process when it comes to pedal demos and he gives us an awesome candid insight into his flow. Is the Tubescreamer the ultimate wingman pedal? Jay thinks so and has a compelling case to consider and Blake is in an educating mood. Are you a fan of the Beach Boys? A number of cool products were released in the last week that were officially licensed by the Beach Boys and the guys discuss them. 513 - Indiana Blake and Brian's one mistake

5/15/2024
Brian, Max, and Richard are back for Episode 513 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Our good buddy Max is back once again, as Blake is out of town on important string business, and he has a new job which causes some speculation before the guys chat about the gear they have been gassing over. Richard attempts to describe a form of small British boat and Brian is most confused by both Richard and Artificial Intelligence. David Gilmour is going on tour and the British King of Fuzz tries to get tickets - and this leads to a discussion about ticket prices, free pedals, and naughty romps. Richard has been sent a pedal as a gift from an old friend and tells us all about it and he also has a theory about the re-release of a certain pedal. He is of course wrong. Max and Brian discuss the classic Danelectro pedals and reflect on the used market for them and Richard has fallen in love with the new Thorpy FX WOPR purely for aesthetic reasons. Do you use an attenuator with your amplifier? The guys discuss the pros and cons of a few different models. Richard grills Max for dirt on Brian. Vintera Guitars, Saucerful of Secrets, Desitone Pedals, McDonalds, 70th Stratocaster...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! Thanks to all our supporters - you are awesome! We are on Patreon now too! 512 - Is this the most stupid guitar invention ever?

5/8/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are joined by Scott from Stringjoy for Episode 512 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Brian is ready to welcome you all to the Tone Chasing show and this week the guys are joined by Scott from Stringjoy. Richard makes some 1980's related costume confessions and he may have found "his look". Brian has demands and Richard has requests. Scott knows all of Blake's deep dark secrets and is also annoyingly young and intelligent. Have you ever owned a guitar with removable pickups? Richard comes up with possibly the most stupid idea he has ever had and then doubles down with more foolishness. This leads into a discussion about the new Gun Street Wiring solder free switchgear. Richard gets nostalgic about car radios. Brian makes outrageous claims about owning a plastic slide and Richard is suspicious. It would be madness not to ask Scott some guitar string related questions, but this is the Chasing Tone podcast and there are more pressing matters. That said, we do get some good insight into tips for re-stringing guitars, taking care of your guitars, and not breaking strings like an oaf. Brian tells Scott about the story of Bryan Burke and Richard opens up a conversation about guitar manufacturing locations. We then get more sensible with the Scott questions and there are some awesome string related nuggets of wisdom. Mammoth, Pirates, Bluetooth speakers, Allman Brothers, Amazon detectives, Even a blind squirrel is right twice a day, Dopplegangers, Sire...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! 511 - Brian breaks out a surprise pedal and it is smoochie time!

5/1/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 511 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Brian makes a case for playing with his toys and not throwing them out of his sandbox - and gives us a sneaky listen into a new product he is working on. In completely unrelated news, our good buddy Jordan over at Poison Noises has made a new Reverb and Delay pedal and Richard loves the finish he picked for it. This leads Brian to reminisce wistfully. Richard asks an important question about knob labeling and the guys debate it momentarily before Richard makes an awkward confession. He also tells us about how sometimes testing pedals can be a bit too enjoyable. Synergy have made a new module, the DRECT which is based on "that" high end Californian sound and the guys then talk about some of their favorite amps and Brian gets instant GAS. There was an early leak of a pedal and the guys skirt around it rapidly before reflecting on the sad news that Dickie Betts from the Allman brothers had passed away. There was a recent article about how male dominated the guitar world was and the guys dig in to it and on the way Richard discovered a new artist to get into. And it isn't that "Snake Guy" British Shorts Time, Mesa Boogie Stiletto, AI rant, ENGL Ironball, Friedman IRX, Joan Armatrading...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! 510 - The amazing Stringboy and the greatest guitar pedal ever?

4/24/2024
Brian, Blake, and Richard are back for Episode 510 of the Chasing Tone Podcast Brian is in a special new place...or not...and apologies are made for his button pressing as a world record is set and we talk about the world's crankiest Englishman. Said Englishman has questions about IEMs and he asks for a reasoned debate and he gets some, and some unreasoned debate. Someone threw terrible boomer based accusations and Richard has familial drum machine excitement. Brian and Richard found a tweet relating to Chumbawumba and it made them both giggle muchly and a hero of the week is elected. Do you know what the greatest guitar pedal (yet to be released) is? The guys stumbled upon a series of new guitar pedals and discuss them at length. Brian gives away pedal company secrets. Fender have come up with an interesting color choice for a limited run release, they also have a new Tom Delonge signature Starcaster, and the guys have split opinions - shock horror! Richard makes some Coke confessions. Brian lies about lack of GAS and Blake has tax woes. Elgar, Electric Love, Epi-thief, Ecosystems, Elevation, Extra Jaffa Cake duty...it's all in this week's Chasing Tone! Thanks to all our supporters - you are awesome! We are on Patreon now too!
