Special Army-Navy Preview With PxP Announcers Rich DeMarco And Pete Medhurst | Announcer Schedules Podcast

12/8/2023
In a special edition of the "Announcer Schedules Podcast," Mike Gill and Phil de Montmollin are joined by radio play-by-play voices Rich DeMarco (Army) and Pete Medhurst prior to the 124th edition of the Army-Navy game. With this year's game playing for the first time at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., the two announcers go inside what it is like to call the Army-Navy game and to be the voice of a service academy. In addition, each announcer provides his personal journey along with wisdom for aspirants of the sports broadcasting profession. DeMarco is in his 16th year with the Army Athletic Association. After serving as the Black Knights' director of broadcasting for three years, the New Jersey product added the title of director of multimedia services and community outreach during the summer of 2007. Less than one year later, DeMarco was elevated to the title of assistant athletic director for multimedia services and broadcasting. DeMarco serves as the radio play-by-play voice for Black Knights football broadcasts, and also hosts Army's weekly football radio show. During the winter months, DeMarco calls the radio play-by-play of Army's men's basketball team. He was behind the microphone for the Black Knights' NCAA women's basketball tournament appearance in 2006, and was part of the broadcast team for Army's NCAA appearance in 2014. DeMarco also handles play-by-play duties for Army's baseball team - broadcasting NCAA Tournament games in 2004, 2005, 2009, 2012 and 2013 - and has called games for the Black Knights lacrosse program, including their NCAA Tournament appearances in 2004, 2005 and 2010. Medhurst has been part of the Naval Academy Radio Network since 1998, providing play-by-play for the Navy's sports teams on the Patriot League TV and Navy Radio Networks. In 2013, he took over football play-by-play duties for the Midshipmen, succeeding now-voice of the New England Patriots Bob Socci. Medhurst has called multiple NCAA championship events that Navy has participated in, as well as many of the 33 varsity sports at the Academy. Medhurst has also handled Lacrosse play-by-play for the Big Ten Network and called football and lacrosse contests on CBS Sports Network as well. Additionally, Medhurst has worked as part of the Washington Nationals radio broadcast team for several years. Since 2012, he has worked at 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C. where he also hosts Nationals-related programs. CFB Playoff Snubs FSU + Deion "SI Sports Person?" And Analysts That Won't Criticize | LWOS Media Podcast

12/6/2023
It's our latest ediition of the show and host T.J. Rives returns to go over the College Football Playoff selection committee and their robbery of FSU. Was it ESPN directed? What's the precedence previously for "snubs?" And, will it matter anyway is a big subject? T.J. is joined by Jonathan Grella, former NFL and LIV Golf Tour Communications official, who now runs his own media/marketing company out of Washington D.C. They go ovver the CFP and what went on and the motives behind. Then, they talk Pro Football Hall of Famer now turned College Football coach Deion Sanders getting the Sports Illustrated "Sports Person of the Year" despite his team remarkably flaming out and failing by losing eight of its last nine games? How has might SI fallen, incluiding using AI writers? It's a Joke, The boys also discuss why analysts from all big time sports on TV, especially, won't criticize or take stands about games, players or situations. Jonathan has thoughts on what those reasons now are that we get sterile or neutered takes, instead of real opinions and comments? T.J finishes with some eye opening NFL TV numbers in the ratings, as well. Best Of Three Years Of Shows! | Tell Me A Story I Don't Know

12/4/2023
The best of nearly 100 interviews in “Tell me a story I don’t know” is really a personal choice. I’ve featured so many guests in best of 9 seasons but in this finale I thought it might be worthy to have you listen to some thought provoking, funny and poignant moments. And not the least of them came from two people who left us. Dave Wills, the ever popular voice of the Tampa Rays and a Chicago native died last March of a heart ailment. He was only 58. Alan Schwartz was 91 but full of vim and vigor. He was once president of the United States Tennis Association and builder of Mid Town tennis in 1970 and for nearly 50 years, the largest indoor facility in the U.S. Schwartz died in December of 2022, just three days after we had our semi annual lunch. I was crushed when I learned of both of their passings. The best of also includes an almost hard to believe story from Los Angeles Dodgers play by play voice Charlie Steiner how history repeated itself. Cheryl Ray Stout, long time reporter and trailblazer here in Chicago recounted how she broke the story of Michael Jordan leaving basketball for baseball and then, returning to the Bulls! Cubs radio voice Ron Coomer remembered as a child how he refused to trade baseball gloves with a future hall of famer and how could I not include Brent Musburger, my inspiration back when I was a 14 year old entertaining thoughts of getting into the business. After spending a half century plying my trade, I thanked him publicly. It was all worth it. “Tell me a story I don’t know" is sponsored by Mr. Duct and “Tell me a story I don’t know: conversations with Chicago sports legends” is now available on Amazon Books and at chicago area book stores. It's been a great run of "Tell me story I don't know" with a special two part podcast coming up! Best Of Three Years Of Shows Tease | Tell Me A Story I Don't Know

12/4/2023
The best of “Tell me a story I don't know” is a conglomeration of ten stories the author of this podcast enjoyed for various reasons. It includes a clip with his inspiration, one with a local reporter, who broke TWO Michael Jordan stories, along with a writer who conveyed a humorous one about the GOAT and a golf game. There are also parts of conversations with two wonderful people, who left us earlier. While there were nearly 100 guests during the last 3 years of "Tell me a story I don't know," this "best of" manages to encapsulate a wide range of people and stories. We hope you enjoy it. Legendary CBS/ESPN-ABC Sports Broadcaster Brent Musburger Part II Tease | Tell Me A Story I Don't Know

11/27/2023
We all have inspirations. Mine is Brent Musburger, one of this country’s most celebrated and successful sportscasters. As a 14 year old growing up in Chicago I was mesmerized watching him on local TV. I wanted to be him. Turns out I have fashioned a career spanning a half century. Musburger loves the fact that young people he’s come across feel the same about him as I do. Now 84 and host of “Countdown to Kickoff” on VSiN, Musburger shares more memorable stories in part two of this terrific podcast. For example, Musburger admits he only wanted to be a sports writer, which he was for the Chicago American. But he wound up being part of WBBM Newsradio’s inaugural year of 1968 He also joined the CBS TV affiliate here and the rest is history. Musburger also discusses the tremendous success of the NFL Today, his stunning departure from CBS and subsequent hiring by ABC and ESPN. And then there’s just how “You are looking live” began. Of all the interviews I’ve done, this is the most cherished of them all. “Tell me a story I don’t know” is sponsored by Mr. Duct. (mrductcleanjng.com). And my new book, “Tell me a story I don’t know: Conversations with Chicago sports legends” is available on Amazon books. CBS NFL Analyst Tiki Barber Conversation And More! | Last Word On Sports Media Podcast

11/21/2023
We are ready for the Thanksgiving holiday, but first, some interesting conversation and takes on sports media is forthcoming with CBS NFL TV analyst Tiki Barber as a guest and other sports media news and takes. It's all happening on the "Last Word on Sports Media Podcast!" Host T.J. Rives is back and has his thoughts on the mess that Charissa Thompson of Fox Sports/Amazon NFL coverage created for herself by admitting that she fabricated/lied about doing halftime interviews and giving out other supposed information. Thompson appears to have escaped any punishment and T.J. has example after example about how firings have happened for fabrication in the media (sports or news) and how things are now just different. Next, T.J. welcomes Tiki Barber, who was his previous partner 2020-22 on Compass Media Networks college football coverage. Now, Tiki is with the weekly CBS TV crew with play by play man Andrew Cantalon and former Falcons QB Matt Ryan. What's the adjustment from radio to TV? How much has Ryan helped Tiki with the "newer" NFL of the 2010s and 2020s? And, what was it like to be part of his brother Ronde's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction this past Summer? Finally, T.J. has takes on the massive Monday Night Football TV numbers for the Chiefs-Eagles game, but, and it's a BUT, the numbers are not exactly comparable. He explains. Legendary Florida Gators Volleyball Coach Mary Wise | Tell Me A Story I Don't Know

11/14/2023
Mary Wise is in the midst of her 33 year as head volleyball coach at Florida where she’s established numerous records not the least of which is winning 25 SEC titles and appearing in 8 final fours. She credits the university for giving her the resources to help recruit the best athletes in the country while also crediting her staff. And to think back in 1981 Wise became the youngest ever coach in NCAA history when she was hired to run Iowa State’s program. She was 21. “How in over my head was I? The seniors were just a year younger than me! When I started there was no NCAA championships for women.” From there, the native of Evanston, Illinois moved on to Kentucky where for one season she was the head coach and where she married her husband Mark Wise. Name sound familiar? Mark is a basketball analyst for the SEC on ESPN. Mary was recently inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame, where I had the pleasure of meeting this highly successful woman. Mary has had a remarkable run in Gainesville but the one achievement she’s not reached is winning an NCAA a title. Perhaps, this season?
