The Psychological Price That Entrepreneurs Pay for Success

3/28/2024
It can be challenging to imagine that entrepreneurship comes with a psychological price considering how much the media glamorizes it. Most people only see the lavish and exciting lifestyles of high-profile entrepreneurs. That is why it is important to pay attention to the psychological price that entrepreneurs pay and work to avoid it. But this makes up a small percentage of the overall business owner population. Most entrepreneurs don't own private jets, and they don't party with well-known celebrities or live extravagantly. However, this doesn't mean that their life is all set out for them either. Just like other leaders, they also pay the psychological price of achieving their dreams and maintaining their success. Bradley Smith is the prime example of unequivocal business success behind which hid the fear of failure, stress-ridden anxiety, and the constant feeling of not being enough. Smith is the CEO of Rescue One Financial, a California-based financial service company that, on average, makes $32 million/year in sales. In 2008, Bradley Smith was working day and night, counseling nervous clients on getting out of debt. But while he gave them advice, Smith was drowning in debt himself. Smith had a steep beginning; working with a debt settlement company, maxing out his credit card, selling his very first and most expensive watch, and doing business with family by asking his dad for a $10,000 loan. Smith and his wife were living off of scraps, making the best of what they had, and sharing only a bottle of wine for dinner. He would wake up in the middle of the night with his mind racing, wondering, 'how can I ever turn this thing off?' Want more proven business success tips and resources? Why Emotional Intelligence is Important in Leading Your Team

3/21/2024
Emotional intelligence is a vastly underrated trait in a great business leader. While hard skills, such as technical skills or knowledge, can be learned, emotional intelligence needs to be cultivated. Soft skills such as empathy, patience, and self-awareness, are all crucial for successfully leading a team and growing your business to your next level. Leaders who have high emotional intelligence are much farther ahead of the curve than those who have a keen instinct for business. They’re more capable of building a team they can retain, and aware of what it takes to motivate that team as they grow their company. If it’s so important, why is it so underrated? Let’s explore more about why this trait is the foundation of a successful leadership tenure. What is Emotional Intelligence? 4 Ways to Preserve Your Company Culture as You Scale Your Business

3/14/2024
Your business is scaling, which is fantastic! It means that your business is successful and growing, as is your team. And it’s more important now than ever to preserve your company’s culture, or what made it so great in the first place. A symptom of rapid expansion can be feeling like the spirit of the company is not the same as it once was. With more people joining your team, they can have an impact on the overall culture of the company. More individual personalities means more voices, and the core set of values that you once established may be lost among the noise. Scaling your business doesn’t mean you need to choose between success and a strong company culture—in fact, if your culture is well-defined, many of your new hires will echo those values and uphold them as they help you grow your business. Let’s explore four ways to preserve your company culture as your team continues to grow and you scale your business. How much of your company culture you preserve as you scale depends on how much you care about it. Preserve your company culture as you scale by being an example of your company values, hiring to fit company culture, and adapting as the company grows while maintaining the core of who your business is. 4 Steps to Building Persistent Behavior and Get Even Better Results

2/29/2024
Persistence is sort of like a ‘magic word’ when it comes to success. Persistence is basically the repetition or continuation of behavior, and it is an absolutely essential part of business. As a successful business owner, you no doubt have at least a pretty good idea of what it takes to be persistent, though it never hurts to revisit a subject that is very important. The whole idea of persistence revolves around the fact that motivation has a tendency to wax and wane a bit as time goes by. Persistence is a behavior that can be learned, and it is also a behavior which will render this troublesome waxing and waning of your motivation harmless in the long run, which is why it is so instrumental to expanding your current level of success. However, since persistence is an attribute of longevity, it can take some strength of mind and some psychological fortitude to really believe in it enough to make a commitment to practice it day after day. Now, we are going to discuss 4 steps to building persistent behavior. Following these steps will help you with the process of more consistently being a persistent person so you can experience even better results. Every day, remind yourself that persistence is an absolute necessity. Without it, any business will flounder and possibly even fail. If you find yourself lacking persistence, then keep taking each of these four steps, one at a time. Taking a proactive approach to solving this problem is by far the best way to deal with it, and these steps forward are a perfect way to get started! I’m the author of many books, including, Excuses Don’t Count; Results Rule, Live Life with No Regrets, No Excuses, The Guide to Stopping Procrastination, The Power of Visualization, My Gratitude Journal, the Work Life Balance Emergency Kit, and The Roadmap To Success with Stephen Covey and Ken Blanchard, and more. Use Time Blocks to Manage Your Schedule and Increase Your Success

2/22/2024
Using calendar time blocks is one of the best ways to effectively manage your time. It's a skill that is often overlooked but is an essential key to a productive day (day after day). We'll explore different ways you can make this critical practice easier in your life and take some of the stress out of your schedule by breaking up tasks into manageable chunks. One of the benefits of using time blocks is that it gives you more control over your day. You can use it to prioritize what's important and get the most critical tasks done right away, or you can set up time blocks for things like checking email, social media, or other less pressing activities that take up a lot of time. It can also help you manage tasks when you have limited time to work on them. Remember - time blocks aren't set in stone! You'll notice that I've given you many different options for creating your time block schedule. That's because there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to managing your time effectively. How to Stay Motivated During a Time Block It can be hard to stay focused and motivated when you know you only have a limited amount of time to do something. One trick is to set your target for the time block and break your goals down into smaller steps. This way, you'll feel like you're constantly moving forward, rather than just staring at a long to-do list or a pile of work. How to Make the Most of Your Time Blocks When you plan your day, think about how long tasks will take you. Then, block off enough time to do them correctly. Avoid multitasking and using time blocks for more than one task at a time, as it can be stressful and cost you extra time in the long run. It can be tempting to say that a particular time block will work for all tasks, but it doesn't. Experiment with different lengths of time blocks and see how they affect you getting the work done. A longer time block might give you the chance to take a break from your work now and then, while a shorter one may help you stay even more focused. When deciding how to split your day, give yourself a small test run of each time block. If you need more time than scheduled, increase your blocks to the desired length in the future. Similarly, if you feel that tasks are taking less time than expected, reduce your time blocks. Your schedule should be flexible enough to allow you to shift your time blocks as you go along. This will save you from wasting time on tasks that don't need as much time and help you manage your overall productivity for the day. My philosophy is that if the calendar could talk, assuming you have the “right” activities in it, it would tell you what to do and when, and you would say, thanks calendar and move on to the next activity. Did you know that some of the most productive people in the world swear by time blocking? Ever heard of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Michael Hyatt, or Cal Newport? Yep – all time-blockers. Happy New Year! Let’s kick some butt in 2024!

1/2/2024
Happy New Year! Let’s kick some butt in 2024! “What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year.” I think this is a great quote by Vern McLellan. We all have 365 days in a year. The only difference between the successful people and the mediocre is what they do with each day. We spend every second of every day doing something. Are those activities moving you forward or keeping you where you currently are? I just wanted to take a quick moment to say how much I appreciate your business and continued support. It is a pleasure for me to be able to serve entrepreneurs and business professionals like you. I believe that you and I have the ability to have a positive impact on this world. That's why I'm so excited to serve our community. 2023 has been written and I hope our relationship will grow into something even more amazing in 2024. When hard-working, values- and goals-driven people like you and I put our heads together, there's no limit to what we can accomplish. Thank you for your continued support and I hope you let me know how else I can be of service to you in 2024 and beyond. I wish you a very healthy, happy, and profitable new year. Oprah Winfrey said: “Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right.” I welcome your comments and feedback on how I can help you make 2024 your best year ever! Aim for what you want each and every day! Until next time, make it a great day, today and every day. I very much appreciate you listening. Aim for what you want each and every day!
