Tonight we find ourselves recapping another a loss of another winnable series. We cover what went wrong on this trip to Minute Maid. From errors leading to runs again and again to the starters barely covering enough innings which oddly enough is why we signed two of those we had going in the series. It wasn't all bad as for the most part the bullpen continued its dominance including Helsley leading the league with his 20th save. Gorman & Burly also continued their hot streaks at the plate becoming the first pair of Cardinals hitters to accomplish a particular feat in franchise history. In tonight's episode we will be taking a closer look at the recent series loss to the Phillies. Despite a lot of frustrations from the games there were quite a few positives and other takeaways. But before we get to all of that, RJ lost a bet and had to suffer through the 1 Chip Challenge. While he was busy handling the heat from that we cover Game 1 in which Sosa blasted a 3 run shot off Miles early in the game wound up being the difference maker. It did not help the offense that we are currently without Contreras, Noot & Donny (a late scratch with a stiff neck) but as usual Nola continued his dominance. Moving on to Game 2, Sonny had issues early and was knocked from the game and the offense wasn't able to take advantange of a freak comebacker that drove Suarez from the game after the 2nd inning and made the Phillies turn to their bullpen early. In an all important game 3 the offense was able to break out and avoid the sweep with contributions throughout the lineup including a clutch hit by Gorman in the 10th. Helsley sealed the deal for his league leading 19th save of the season. A big issue this season that continued this series was the errors that loom large. Without them this game is 4-0 in 9. Finally, we find ourselves now in sole possession of the last Wild Card spot. Next up we have a stretch of series that are winnable. The offense continued its surge during the series outside of a forgettable Game 1 of the series to give us the 5th straight series win. We go in depth into the offensive contributions from individual players including the Nolans, Goldy, Noot & more while also highlighting the efforts from the pen in holding and securing those victories. Finally we hit upon Pallante who absolutely wowed in his start leading many to now have him as the frontrunner for that 5th spot in the rotation. Only time will tell if they let him roll with that. Thanks for joining us for this Memorial Day Weekend episode and our thoughts are with those servicemen and women that have lost their lives in service to protect the freedoms of this wonderful country. Today we will be recapping the recent 2 game sweep of our rivals, the Chicago Cubs. We start off quickly covering the postponed 1st game of the series which may have ultimately set the tone for things as it pushed back the start of their ace this season, Imanaga and gave us a real opportunity to set the tone the next day. Moving on to Game 2, we highlight the overall performance of the offense in what was easily the most exciting game of the season for fans capped with a 4 run eighth with the help of a timely pitch hit RBI from Carpenter and highlight reel slide from Burleson. We also talk about the bullpens cracks that began to appear and bled into the next game. For Game 3, we find ourselves talking heavily about Cardinal Killer Happ and our former MVP Goldy who were the real stars of the game. We touch on Sonny having to come out early despite a stellar line to that point and the ambiguity surrounding what may or may not have happened with the rain delays and what not. We also dive deeper into Helsleys recent issues and if its possible he's tipping pitches. Finally we take a look down at the farm to check in on Walker and see how he's doing while also shifting focus to another important upcoming NL Central series on the road against the Reds. Recapping the sweep of the series against the Baltimore Orioles. Not only was this our first one of the season but also killed the O's attempt to break our franchises MLB record from back in the day. Coming into this series many figured this would be a real test of where this team stood and outside of a few mistakes that kept Baltimore in it, they did what they needed to do and took 3 important games. Siani was the star of Game 1, Gorman of a rain delayed Game 2, while it took a team effort to comeback and steal game 3 from under their noses. Not only that but both the starters and relievers held up fantastically against a potent offense. Very little negatives from this series which is a rare thing this season. In the last 10 the Cardinals are 8-2 while the rest of the Central is on a slide. We find ourselves only 1 GB of a Wild Card spot and still well in the mix for the Central title. In this episode we take a deeper look at Army and Bannister's press conferences from the offseason regarding their thoughts on the teams performance and at the time, the coaching search that would be taking place. With that decision being made less than 2 weeks later we felt it was prudent to go back, rewatch and share our thoughts on their assessment of the teams performance and the plan going ahead. Army's presser covers topics like overall team performance, how they'll be managing the future group of prospects seemingly knocking on the doorstep, where we are at in the rebuild, and takes questions about the coaching search in which he confirms Bannister is a finalist. As for Bannisters presser, he gives a lot of thanks to the organization for this opportunity even though it was never guaranteed he'd be brought back, and also the players for rallying around his message. Other topics include where he feels the team fell short and what his plans are for the future of the team.
