Emily White, sometimes dubbed by Host Emily as EW2 to avoid confusion, is from West Virginia and became a lightning rod in the music industry as an intern for NPR in 2012 based on a blog post she wrote called “I Never Owned Any Music To Begin With.” The Emilys delve into the chaos that ensued, and how EW2 went on in her career to positions at Billboard and is currently creating how we all consume music as a product manager at Spotify. Although we know that interning is a controversial, this is NOT what interning is all about. In this episode Emily shares her horror and disgust as a call to action amongst her fellow bosses for proper intern treatment and segues into her personal experiences of being sexually harassed and assaulted as an intern. She discusses starting from scratch and quickly partnering with a comedy manager that fate brought together, leading to Emily’s first project that was Grammy nominated. White talks about her first major panel and how to succeed and grow with such opportunities, and how that all led to her name gracing the cover of Billboard magazine in her 20’s.
