How should we live in light of what we know about the end times? Pastor Greg Laurie shares the answer as we wrap up our series we’re calling "The Future Is Written." Notes: Focus verse: Luke 12 An understanding of End Times teaching will cause us to live Godly lives. What you believe about End Times will affect the way you live in these times. If our belief in the imminent return of Christ does not affect our lifestyles, we have completely missed the point. D.L. Moody was once asked, “If you knew the Lord would return tonight, how would you spend the rest of the day?” Moody replied without hesitation, “I wouldn’t do anything different than I do every day.” What should I be doing in light of the fact that Jesus could come at any moment? Read: Luke 12:35–38 We should be shining lights in a dark place. Luke 12:35 To gird your waist simply meant, “to tighten your belt.” To have their lamps burning meant, they would have sufficient oil in them. As the culture gets darker, we need to shine brighter. We are to be watching for Him. Luke 12:37 We are to be ready to go. We should not only be ready but be anxiously awaiting His return. Luke 12:36 We are not only anxiously waiting but we are also working. Luke 12:43 We will never share the gospel if we don’t care about lost people. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. The gospel, by its design, is meant to be shared with others. We can evangelize or fossilize. Luke 12:45–46 The easiest place to get a hardened heart is in the church. The easiest place to get a hardened heart is where you hear the Word of God being taught. What Is the Rapture? 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 “The rapture of the church is that future event when Jesus Christ will descend from Heaven to resurrect the bodies of departed believers and to transform and translate the bodies of living believers immediately into His glorious presence in a moment of time, and then escort them to Heaven to live with Him forever.” —Mark Hitchcock The Rapture vs. The Second Coming The Rapture is when Jesus comes for His church. The Second Coming is when Jesus comes with His church. The Rapture happens before the tribulation. The Second Coming happens at the end of the tribulation. The Rapture is the removal of believers from the earth as an act of deliverance. The Second Coming includes unbelievers as an act of judgement. The Rapture will be secret and instant. The Second Coming will be visible to everyone. The Second Coming will not happen until the rapture happens. Nothing else needs to happen prophetically for the Rapture to happen. 2. Is It Biblical? Why Should We care? 1 Corinthians 15:51–53 The Rapture Is Biblical Because: Accounts of people raptured (Enoch and Elijah). Civilizations spared from judgement (Sodom & Gomorrah and Nineveh). Although Israel plays a significant role in Bible prophecy, there is still a lot misunderstood. Pastor Greg Laurie provides clarity on the topic. Learn about God’s plan and how this nation plays a part in it. Notes: Focus verses: Ezekiel 37 / Romans 11 As the signs of the times increase and get closer together, it reminds us that Jesus’ coming is very near. The nation Israel is the key to the end times. The Jews are God’s chosen people, and Satan hates what God loves. A sign of the end times is the regathering of the Jews in Israel. Read: Ezekiel 37:1–6, 11–14 Israel will be scattered. Israel will be regathered. Israel will regain Jerusalem. Israel will be isolated. The city of Jerusalem will be a focal point of the end times. Israel will be “an intoxicating drink,” “a heavy stone,” and “a burden for the world.” Zechariah 12:2–3 After being regathered in their land, Israel will be attacked. Read: Ezekiel 38:2–6, 10–11 Magog today probably represents the former underbelly of the Soviet Union. Rosh is the remote part of the North, so it may be a direct reference to Russia. Gomer is part of modern Turkey. Persia is modern Iran. “Iran clearly knows now how to unlock the doors to a nuclear Armageddon. There is a growing sense in Israel that Jerusalem is quickly running out of time.” —An expert on the Middle East “Tehran has inserted the nuclear key into the gate lock of Armageddon and is beginning to twist it open.” —Unknown God intervenes on Israel’s behalf. Ezekiel 38:18 Read: Romans 11:25–26 A spiritual awakening will happen to the Jewish people. Jeremiah 33:23–24 God’s first covenant with Israel was with Abraham, the father of the Hebrews. Genesis 12:2–3 God wants to use us to bless the people who have blessed us. Romans 11:14 If a Christian is walking with God, others will take notice. Are you a bridge or a barrier to people coming to Christ? If you want to win some, be winsome (friendly, kind, and loving). God says we will never be alone in life. Isaiah 41:10 God promises to get us through whatever we’re facing. Isaiah 43:2 Jesus promised that He would come again. God is waiting for the complete number of Gentiles to come to Christ. Romans 11:25–26 Every soul matters to God! Enoch represents the believers who will not die but be caught up. God is waiting for that last Gentile to come.
