We're on to La Costa after chaos at NCAA men's regionals

5/16/2024
Burko and Brentley hop on for a late-night recording – and Brentley forgets to switch over to his actual mic, so apologies for the broken AirPod audio at times – just hours removed from a wild Wednesday of NCAA Division I men's golf regionals. They break down all the chaos, from Arizona State's "embarrassing" exit as a top seed and similar disappointment from a whopping four of the six No. 2 seeds. Plenty of kudos are given, especially to Stanford and its star seniors, who survived at home. Burko gets his revenge on Brentley in their picks. And then they shift to the NCAA Women's Championship, which starts Thursday. They look at the favorites, throw some other contenders in the hat, and Brentley offers up his early-wave sleeper – that really shouldn't be a sleeper. Finally, they get completely off the rails about trading cards of college golfers and Burko gets nerdy about grading and rare finds. This was a fun one!

Auburn's Jackson Koivun is best frosh in country; ASU wins Cabo, Darius Rucker

On the women's side, Arizona State wins the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, which was tightly contested on both the team and individual leaderboards. Wake Forest is banged up, too, but the Deacs still moved to No. 1 – even after Stanford won a tournament. Though as Brentley points out, it's likely due to an input error. The rankings issues persist throughout the episode, including during the Cabo portion, where Michael Thorbjornsen of Stanford is now No. 3 after his win in Mexico. The Arizona State men bounce back, Vandy struggles, and down in Pinehurst, Auburn flexes its muscles as perhaps the best team in the country right now. Brentley then sits down with Tigers freshman Jackson Koivun, who has an argument as not only the best freshman in college golf but also best player.
