Everything Falls With the Raindrops (Yankees Series Recap, 5/14-5/16)

5/17/2024
Send us a Text Message. It wasn't exactly the series the Minnesota Twins hoped for, but perhaps it was the sort of series the team's fans have come to expect, as the New York Yankees swept three games from the Twins at Target Field. And after a Ryan Jeffers Game 1 home run, the Twins scored zero runs -- not the sort of offensive output the team had been putting together lately. David and Dan run through the many miscues in the outfield, namely those by Willi Castro, who both of them believe to be miscast in the role of backup centerfielder. David shares his observations from sitting in a sea of Yankees fans in Game 2, and Dan wonders whether this Twins team could actually win a couple games in New York in a few weeks, assuming a few key players get healthy. They look at the argument as to whether Chris Paddack was tipping his pitches in Game 1, and they bemoan the continuing saga that is MLB television coverage. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! The Extinction of the Varlociraptor (Blue Jays Series Recap, 5/10-5/12)

5/13/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins traveled north of the border and took 2 of 3 from the Toronto Blue Jays. The sausage effect is still in full swing and the legend grew larger under the aurora borealis (better known as the Norther Lights if you're not pretentious). Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober both continued their fantastic seasons, while SWR had a rough outing and got no help from the bullpen after the offense provided a big 7-run lead in game 2. Max Kepler continued his recent clutch hitting while David continued his Puckett's Picks winning streak. The guys discuss Carlos Santana's crazy turn around and Rocco's bizarre usage of Cole Sands. Dan wants to know if the bullpen questions could be answered by Louie Varland, and David is curious if Twins fans will ever again get to watch the team play if they have Comcast. Max Kepler's Moral Failings (Mariners Series Recap, 5/6-5/9)

5/10/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins continued their winning ways taking 3 of 4 from the Seattle Mariners at Target Field. The Twins offense stayed hot hitting .351 w/RISP and the stellar outings from Chris Paddack, SWR, and Pablo Lopez helped the Twins win their 5th series in a row. It's not all sunshine and rainbows however, as the boys are baffled at the pinch hitting decisions made by Rocco Baldelli. David wants to know what Alcala has done to wrong Rocco. Dan is curious who the current team MVP is, and whether or not it will turn out to be someone different come the end of the season. The boys find their friendship on the brink of disaster as they can't see eye-to-eye on Max Kepler scoring while a player lay injured on the ground. The guys finish up discussing the Nugget's Murray's ice pack scandal, and they make their picks for the upcoming Blue Jays series. Thank for listening, and as always, go Twins! The Retirement of the Sausage (Red Sox Series Recap, 5/3-5/5)

5/6/2024
Send us a Text Message. After a marvelous two-week run, the Minnesota Twins' winning streak ends at 12 games with a defeat to the visiting Boston Red Sox. But it was another series win, the team's fourth in a row, and so there is still optimism for Dan and Hoges as they discuss the three games with Boston. "Pablo Day" was very confusing for both Dan and Hoges, who thought it was more than just one specific day. They have plenty of criticism for manager Rocco Baldelli's use of pinch hitting, especially when the players coming in are Manny Margot and Kyle Farmer. They also discuss the injury to Byron Buxton and whether the Twins need to be setting the stage for a new centerfielder next season, just in case, and they wonder whether the sausage sponsorship should come from a place a little bit closer to home. Welcome to The Matrix (White Sox Series Recap, 4/29-5/1)

5/2/2024
Send us a Text Message. With the streak up to 10 games in a row, the Minnesota Twins have Dan and Hoges feeling optimistic -- even if the victories have come against the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels. They look back at the most recent sweep, the Twins' third in a row, and they cling to the optimism inspired by victories in the face of some disappointing news. Hoges rails against the response by Twins' management to the latest in the Bally Sports-Comcast dispute, while Dan wonders whether Byron Buxton's knee injury is either a lingering issue or something catastrophic. Both are encouraged by the returns of Jhoan Duran and Carlos Correa, and they discuss whether the Twins really are a better baseball team than they were -- or if the White Sox really are that bad. Angels Floundering in the Outfield (Angels Series Recap, 4/26-4/28)

4/29/2024
Send us a Text Message. A week ago, the Minnesota Twins' season was at a key inflection point. But seven straight wins later, they are above .500 and right back in the race for the AL Central. David and Dan discuss the sweep of the Los Angeles Angels and all that went right, namely the play of Carlos Santana, Willi Castro and the rest of the position players who are not named Manuel Margot. With all this production, they wonder whose place Carlos Correa will take this week when he likely returns. They also praise the savvy play of Ryan Jeffers, who was one of the many beneficiaries of the Angels' poor play in the field. Dan is glad to have an anti-infield-in ally in the Twins TV booth, while David points out the improved plate discipline we saw from the Twins all series. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! They're Good Enough and They're Smart Enough (White Sox Series Recap, 4/22-4/25)

4/25/2024
Send us a Text Message. There's nothing like a series with the Chicago White Sox to get a team off a losing streak, and the Minnesota Twins took advantage of the opportunity with a four-game sweep at Target Field. David and Dan leave the series still wondering, though: Are the Twins really better now? Or are the White Sox just that bad? They look at the standout performances by Max Kepler, Eddy Julien and Trevor Larnach, as well as the fine pitching performance by Chris Paddack and most of the bullpen. With Carlos Correa and Jhoan Duran back soon, dare we hope the Twins can get back over .500? Thanks for listening, and go Twins! All of the Minnesotans are Being Terrible (Tigers Series Recap, 4/18-4/21)

4/21/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins lose two of three to the Detroit Tigers at Target Field. David and Dan are both frustrated with the poor defensive fielding demonstrated in the series, and Dan's frustration boils over in Rocco's rewind because of Rocco's pinch hitting decisions. Dan wants to know if Max Kepler will feel pressure to save the team upon his return from injury, and David is curious if the Twins are regretting their decision to send Alcala down to the minors. The Hockey Team From Russia (Orioles Series Recap, 4/15-4/17)

4/18/2024
Send us a Text Message. Facing the juggernaut that is the Baltimore Orioles, the Minnesota Twins fall flat as they are swept in a three-game series for the first time this season. David and Dan discuss the struggles of Louis Varland, Chris Paddack and much of the lineup and pitching staff in clutch situations, while David particularly wonders whether someone should be keeping careful track of Rocco Baldelli's brain. They are encouraged by the play of Jose Miranda and that of Byron Buxton, though Dan expresses his fears of watching Buxton go anywhere near an outfield wall. They look ahead to a crucial 16-game stretch against middling to poor teams, wondering whether the Twins can work their way back to .500 by early May. They also ask whether it would be better to have Carlos Correa or Royce Lewis back in the lineup. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! 4/15/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins squander a chance to take 3 of 4 from the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park and instead leave with a series split. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in for Dan and has a lot to get off his chest about the start to this season for the Twins. David wants to find a way to get Simeon Woods-Richardson another start at the major league level, while Hoges wants to know what Rocco could do different to turn around the Twins consistent early season offensive struggles. The guys disagree about who is the main cause of the game 4 melt down in the bottom of the 8th inning, and Hoges finally gets a chance to give his thoughts on Dan's new series grading rubric. David shares some funny news from around baseball and Hoges is concerned about the future of the sport due to the infiltration of sports betting becoming more and more pronounced. A Canadian Conspiracy (Dodgers Series Recap, 4/8-4/10)

4/11/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins end a disappointing homestand with one victory, at least, in a series loss to the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers. David and Dan discuss the missed opportunities for the Twins in Game 1 and Game 2 as well as the highlights from by far their best performance of the series in a Game 3 victory. Both David and Dan have their theories about the up and down showing at the plate by Eddy Julien, though they are universal in their praise for Carlos Correa, who looks to be the player they thought they were signing before last year's injury-hobbled season from the star shortstop. They also discuss Byron Buxton's spectacular catch, Matt Wallner's apparently lengthy thighs and the staying power of a quartet of candidates for third base (until Royce Lewis is back) and the extra outfield spot (until Max Kepler returns). Finally, they've made some tweaks to the Puckett's Picks system to add some intrigue. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! A David Divided Against Himself Cannot Stand (Guardians Series Recap, 4/4-4/7)

4/8/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins hosted their first home series of the season against the Cleveland Guardians. The three-game series was shortened to two due to weather and the boys are confused why the Twins didn't find a way to use the extra day that was built into the schedule for just such an occasion. The Guardians walk away winning both games primarily due to the Twins offensive struggles, which went 0-23 w/RISP. Dan wonders if the calls for Popkins' firing ought to be started up again, and also would prefer to see more aggressiveness on the base paths during these poor offensive outings. David can't decide whether he wants Rocco to use pinch hitters for lefties facing lefties on the mound, and also is curious how soon we'll see Jose Miranda back up in the big leagues. The guys discuss the MLBPA's contention that the pitch clock is causing a rise in pitchers getting injured, and a listener offers his thoughts on Dan's constantly changing grading rubric. Milliseconds from Being Bratwursted (Brewers Series Recap, 4/2-4/3)

4/4/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins crossed the border for a quick two-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers and came away with a series split. The boys discuss the Twins inability to product clutch hitting with runners in scoring position, and Louie Varland's lackluster first start of 2024. Dan feels Rocco is too quick to pull Eddie Julien out of games, and questions Rocco's decision to have Margot bunt in game two with 2 outs and the bases loaded. David wants to know if the bullpen can continue their dominance while they wait for Duran, Thielbar, and Topa to return from the IL, and he's curious how willing Rocco will be to have his current set of high leverage relievers pitch more than one inning. The Look of Pain (Royals Series Recap, 3/28-3/31)

4/1/2024
Send us a Text Message. The joy of Opening Day was a bit mixed for Minnesota Twins fans, as Royce Lewis showed all he was capable of -- and then hobbled into third base with what proved to be a severe quad strain. David and Dan recap all we learned about the Twins' third baseman and much more from a series victory over the Kansas City Royals. While the starting pitching had two masterful turns by Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober's stinker of a start in Game 3 has them a little puzzled. They are also surprised that for years manager Rocco Baldelli had no warmup plan for day games, and they wonder too what his thinking was behind the way he handled Austin Martin's first MLB appearance. David lets Dan unveil a new grading system and then excoriates him for it. They also offer Puckett's Picks for the next series, a two-game set in Milwaukee. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! A Small but Significant Sample Size (2024 Minnesota Twins Season Preview)

3/24/2024
Send us a Text Message. The 2024 season is here, and David, Dan and Hoges are ready with their predictions about how they think it's going to go. Before they get to that, the boys weigh in on the Shohei Ohtani situation, the rule changes for this season and the look of the 2024 Minnesota Twins schedule. Then they debate whether they've seen enough of Royce Lewis, Byron Buxton and Brooks Lee to fairly predict how each will perform this season. They are all in agreement that the starting rotation lacks depth, and they have questions about what might happen in the case of injuries. But they are optimistic - albeit for different reasons - that this is going to be a solid year for the Twins. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! Pinching Pennies in Twinsland (2024 Minnesota Twins Spring Training No. 4)

3/20/2024
Send us a Text Message. There is one more week until Major League Baseball season gets going, and Andrew Hoganson joins Dan to talk about the latest developments in Minnesota Twins spring training. That includes a host of injuries in the bullpen, plus news that Byron Buxton has tweaked his back enough to miss at least a couple spring training games. Hoges is particularly frustrated that the Twins didn't make a serious run at signing Blake Snell, while Dan asks whether Minnesota fans' eagerness for a championship would be assuaged by a Timberwolves title. Both Dan and Hoges love the Diamond Twins specials the team put together, though they wonder about Rocco's rah-rah-rah capabilities. 3/12/2024
Send us a Text Message. The 2024 Grapefruit league season is well underway and the Minnesota Twins roster is ramping up for the regular season. David and Dan talk over the news that Denard Span will be joining the broadcast booth in 2024, as well as some ex-Twins news as Eddie Rosario is signed by the Washington Nationals. The guys discuss some jersey number drama for Carlos Santana and Dan gets tossed after going off on the Athletic's Aaron Gleeman for not asking a particular question in his recent article discussing Rocco's platooning young left-handed hitters against left-handed pitchers. The boys discuss some highlights from recent Grapefruit league play including Byron Buxton's two-triple one home run day, and Royce Lewis, shockingly, hitting another grand slam. 2/27/2024
Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins are still about a month away from playing baseball games that count, but now the spring training games are in full swing. David and Dan discuss the latest roster moves -- including a trade for a righthanded-hitting outfielder -- and all the off-field updates, including the Pohlad's latest attempts to explain why they aren't spending money and the changes in the radio booth. They also look around the MLB to talk about the controversial pants as well as the new rule changes. Finally, they wrap up with the convergence of two great passions: baseball and board games, which, according to reports, have found their way into the Twins' locker room this spring. 2/19/2024
Send us a Text Message. The boys are back in studio for the 2024 Minnesota Twins season and discuss all the storylines as spring training begins for the team in Fort Meyers, Florida. Dan is still coming down from his Joe Mauer HoF election and the boys are excited about the Twins getting a city connect jersey this season. David is upset that the Twins front office failed to allow better streaming options for the fanbase, and further the team has no plans to increase their payroll even with a new TV contract in place. The guys discuss the Bobby Witt Jr. signing by the Kansas City Royals and Dan's hopes that the Twins bring back free agent Eddie Rosario. David and Dan talk through the Polanco and Gordon trades, along with the Santana and Jackson signings. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins! Those Darn Character Clauses (Joe Mauer Hall of Fame Announcement, 2024)

1/24/2024
Send us a Text Message. It's finally here, the moment so many Minnesota Twins fans hoped would come: Joe Mauer is headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame. David, Dan and Hoges discuss the announcement that the Minnesota native is among the three players inducted in the Class of 2024 with a special offseason episode of MN for the Win. They discuss Mauer's candidacy while also looking at the Hall more generally: Should there be a 10-vote limit? How much should character play into it? Will players of the steroids era ever get in? And perhaps most important: When will Royce Lewis get the call from the Hall? Look for more episodes in one more month as the boys ramp up to watch what should be another entertaining Minnesota Twins season in 2024. Thanks for listening, and go Twins.
