Week 3 Game Preview: Tua Tagovailoa and The Miami Dolphins Should Thrive Against the Denver Broncos

9/23/2023
The home opener! Expect Hard Rock Stadium to be loud as the Miami Dolphins play in South Florida for the first time this season. Coach Mike McDaniel's squad found early success with wins in back-to-back road games against AFC opponents to kickstart the 2023 season. The Dolphins got to Mac Jones for four sacks and eight quarterback hits last week and will now face a Denver Broncos offensive line that allowed Russell Wilson to be sacked seven times against Washington last week. All eyes will be on Tua Tagovailoa and Miami's high-powered offense against a Denver defense that has struggled early in the season. Robert Mays, host of The Athletic Football Show, summarized this offense with the perfect stat: 17.5 percent of Miami's plays have been explosive so far. There is a greater gap between them at one and the team at two than between teams 2-11. Jaelan Phillips hopes to return to the lineup after missing last week's game and should play an important role against a quarterback who likes to sit in the pocket and let plays develop. Most importantly, improving to 3-0 with a win in the home opener is an opportunity Miami can't squander. Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). Week 3 Game Preview: Russell Wilson Was Sacked 7 Times Last Week, Now Faces Miami's Pass Rush

9/23/2023
Denver Broncos quarterback struggled to escape the pass rush and was hit 14 times in last week's home loss to Washington. Next up, Wilson must face a Dolphins' defense that sacked Mac Jones four times. Miami could see Jaelan Phillips return to the lineup after missing last week's game. Bradley Chubb and Andrew Van Ginkel shined a week ago with a combined 13 tackles, three tackles for a loss, and two sacks. The Dolphins' defense is trending in the right direction and Sunday's home opener could be a matchup Vic Fangio and the defense take advantage of. Week 3 Game Preview: Will Tua Tagovailoa and Miami's Offense Bring Fireworks to Hard Rock Stadium?

9/23/2023
The winless Denver Broncos' defense allows an average of 26 points per game and will now have to slow Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and the undefeated Miami Dolphins. Sam Howell gashed the Broncos for 299 yards and two touchdowns through the air in a 35-33 win for the Washington Commanders last Sunday. Will the Dolphins take advantage of their best matchup to date? Washington's rushing attack averaged five yards per carry last week and running back Raheem Mostert is coming off a two-touchdown performance that featured 121 yards on 18 attempts. Miami has plenty of momentum early in the season, but will it last? Broncos at Dolphins: Terron Armstead, Jaylen Waddle and Other Injuries To Keep An Eye On

9/22/2023
The Miami Dolphins had eight players limited for Thursday's practice while running back Salvon Ahmed and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle were held out of practice for the second straight day. The Dolphins could choose to play it safe earlier in the season with offensive weapons, but what about the rest of MIami's injury report? Wide receiver Tyreek Hill (Ankle) and Andrew Van Ginkel (Ankle) practiced in full after being limited on Wednesday. Tackle Terron Armstead (Back/Ankle/Knee), defensive back Elijah Campbell (Knee), defensive tackle Raekwon Davis (Wrist), tight end Julian Hill (Ankle), tight end Tyler Kroft (Ankle), and linebacker Jaelan Phillips (Back) were all limited on Thursday. On top of that, the Broncos could be without linebacker Frank Clark and safety Justin Simmons on Sunday — tune in to hear where things stand! 3 Things We're Not Ready To Admit About The Miami Dolphins

9/21/2023
The Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers are the only two teams in the NFL to start the season with back-to-back wins on the road. Miami's offense averages nearly 30 points per game, and the defense looked much better against the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football. We're just scratching the surface of the 2023 season and there's still plenty to learn about the Dolphins. While it's hard to not be confident about the team's early season success — there are a few things we're not ready to admit about the 2023 season. Christian Wilkins has been a foundational piece of Miami's roster since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft. That said, did the Dolphins make the right move by holding off on a long-term deal? The entire defense is working to learn a new system and a handful of players look to be paid soon — does keeping Wilkins off the books help avoid future headaches? Raheem Mostert dominated against the Patriots, but should Miami still be in the market for another running back? We heard the rumors surrounding Dalvin Cook and Jonathan Taylor throughout the offseason. Does general manager Chris Grier believe this group can hold for a 17-game season? Mike McDaniel is a fantastic offensive mind but makes a handful of moves that leave us scratching our heads. Does he have someone telling him to challenge plays or does he throw the red flag based on gut feeling? On top of that, why is Jason Sanders attempting a 55-yard field goal after a blocked kick earlier in the game? Are The Miami Dolphins 'Set' at Running Back?

9/21/2023
Raheem Mostert leads the NFL with three rushing touchdowns, is seventh with 158 yards on the ground, and averages 5.6 yards per game through two games. Re-signing Mostert made plenty of sense for coach Mike McDaniel and the Miami Dolphins, but could the team need more to make it through a 17-game injury? Jeff Wilson Jr. is on injured reserve for at least two more games and Salvon Ahmed suffered an injury against the Patriots, leaving Mostert and two rookies on the active roster. Can the Dolphins lean on De'Von Achane and Chris Brooks, or would it be wise to scan available running backs? Mostert dominated against the Patriots, but should Miami still be in the market for another running back? We heard the rumors surrounding Dalvin Cook and Jonathan Taylor throughout the offseason. Does general manager Chris Grier believe this group can hold for a 17-game season? Was Miami Wise To Kick Christian Wilkins Contract Negotiations Down the Road?

9/21/2023
Former first-round pick Christian Wilkins is entering the final year of his rookie contract and it doesn't sound like an extension is being discussed during the season. Miami didn't want to meet his asking price and instead inked Zach Sieler and Alec Ingold to new contracts before Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers — was it a good idea? Wilkins has been a foundational piece of Miami's roster since being drafted in the first round of the 2020 draft. That said, did the Dolphins make the right move by holding off on a long-term deal? The entire defense is working to learn a new system and a handful of players look to be paid soon — does keeping Wilkins off the books help avoid future headaches? Sunday Night Statement: The Miami Dolphins Are Finding Different Ways to Win

9/19/2023
Only two teams began the season with back-to-back road wins, including the Dolphins. Sunday Night Football featured a divisional bout with the New England Patriots, but Miami had enough answers to solidify a 24-17 win in Week 2. Coach Mike McDaniel showcased a 50/50 split with 30 pass attempts and 30 rush attempts against New England. Raheem Mostert stole the show with 121 rushing yards on 18 attempts, his best performance since running all over the Bills last December. It wasn't the prettiest game, but Miami showcased the ability to smooth out road bumps when moving the football. Defensively, Jaelan Phillips was sidelined, but Bradley Chubb and Andrew Van Ginkel answered the call. Mac Jones was sacked four times and Xavien Howard secured another interception against the Patriots. It's hard not to like where the Miami Dolphins are now — but we're all wondering how far they can go. Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). Week 2 Game Recap: Bradley Chubb's Big Game Silences Doubters.

9/19/2023
Jaelan Phillips receives plenty of attention as Miami's top rusher. Sunday night, however, was a bit different as the former first-round pick was forced to miss the game after suffering an injury in practice. All eyes turned to Bradley Chubb, who didn't disappoint with seven tackles, two quarterback hits, and a sack. There were doubts about whether Chubb was worth a high draft pick and a new contract, but Sunday's performance painted a picture of how disruptive he can be. Andrew Van Ginkel and David Long Jr. had great games, too. Was Sunday's win over New England enough to forget Miami's inability to stop the run in Week 1 against the Chargers? Week 2 Game Recap: The Patriots Could Not Stop Raheem Mostert

9/19/2023
The Miami Dolphins flirted with Dalvin Cook and Jonathan Taylor throughout the offseason but ultimately chose to stick with Raheem Mostert as the team's starting running back. Mostert had a handful of good games in his first season with the Dolphins, and Sunday Night Football featured a balanced attack — the Patriots simply struggled to keep up. Coach Mike McDaniel called 30 pass plays and 30 rushing plays as Mostert took the ball 18 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns. The question becomes — how long can Miami's rushing success continue before airing it out to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle? Week 2 Game Preview: Can Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa Remain Undefeated Against the New England Patriots?

9/15/2023
The Miami Dolphins are halfway through a two-game road trip to begin the 2023 NFL season, and next up is a divisional battle with the New England Patriots. Two road wins against AFC opponents could help the Dolphins create some early-season separation in the standings. Nothing is ever that simple when coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots are involved. However, this isn't your parent's Patriots team led by Tom Brady and Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is undefeated when facing New England. After throwing for more than 400 yards last week, will coach Mike McDaniel decide to take to the air or lean more on Raheem Mostert and the rushing attack? Teams expect to be healthy early in the season, but that's not the case for the Patriots. Two of the team's linemen missed two days of practice with a concussion, and cornerback Jonathan Jones, who was not on the injury report Wednesday, was not seen at training on Friday. While coach McDaniel said he wants to run the football more, it could be bombs away against a weakened New England secondary. Week 2 Game Preview: Does Miami Need to Run the Football to Win on SNF?

9/15/2023
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for more than 400 yards as the team's offense scored 36 points against the Chargers last week. Los Angeles responded to each punch before the Dolphins' defense put the game away for good on the final drive. New England's offense isn't nearly as explosive, will Miami choose to run the football and slow the game down against a divisional rival limited by injuries? The Dolphins had little issue scoring points in Week 1, but keep in mind, they scored 30 points against the Patriots just once since 2019 — it involved two defensive touchdowns. Will coach Bill Belichick have a plan to slow Miami's passing attack, or will it be business as usual en route to a 2-0 record to begin the year? Week 2 Game Preview: New England's Injury Report Looks Like a CVS Receipt

9/15/2023
The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots are preparing for a Sunday Night Football showdown with plenty on the line for two AFC East rivals. Despite it only being Week 2, the Patriots are dealing with a handful of notable injuries on each side of the ball. Five offensive linemen were listed on the report. Cornerback Jonathan Jones has missed back-to-back days of practice, could a big Tyreek Hill game be coming? Offensive linemen Trent Brown and Sidy Sow have missed practice this week with concussions, and center David Andrews has been limited with a hamstring injury. Additionally, guards Cole Strange and Mike Onwenu were limited by leg injuries. Miami has a chance to pounce on a weakened New England offensive line after getting to Chargers' quarterback Justin Herbert for three sacks in Week 1. Dolphins At Patriots: Can Mike McDaniel's Offense Drastically Change in One Week? W/ @BrianCatNFL

9/15/2023
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw for more than 400 yards against the Chargers following months of coach Mike McDaniel saying that the team would run the football more. The New England Patriots are a unique matchup for the Dolphins after they split the season series in 2022. That said, Tagovailoa is undefeated in his career against coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Will Miami take flight on Sunday Night Football or switch their identity in order to pounce on New England? We hit everything from Kendall Lamm's strong performance on Sunday to if coach McDaniel found his 'Deebo Samuel' in Erik Ezukanma. Miami Dolphins Stock Up/Stock Down: Six Surprise Performances From Week 1

9/14/2023
It's hard not to overreact to Week 1 of the NFL season — really hard. That said, Sunday's win over the Chargers was the first opportunity to see how Miami's roster has come together. The Dolphins earned a back-and-fourth road win, but who was holding the team back and who was pulling them forward? Miami's offense has come together nicely despite new faces in new places in the trenches and out wide. Looking at the defensive side of the football, should we have concerns regarding the run defense, or is the unit still working to understand Vic Fangio's defensive system? Players highlighted in this podcast include Kendall Lamm, River Cracraft, Braxton Berrios, Emmanuel Ogbah, David Long Jr., and Connor Williams. Stock Up: River Cracraft — He's Pretty Crafty!

9/14/2023
We understand how impactful quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill are, but who are the unsung heroes from Week 1? The Dolphins put up 36 points with some clutch performances from Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft. Berrios looks to be the slot receiver coach Mike McDaniel has been searching for. Cracraft's versatility and ability to block is something to watch moving forward. Of course, it wouldn't be right if we ignored Kendall Lamm and the offensive line keeping Tagovailoa clean for four quarters.
