Coach Harvey Hyde thinks USC needs to make adjustments to survive in the Big Ten
10/7/2024
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about another disturbing loss for the Trojans, falling on the road to 24-17 to Minnesota. Coach Hyde has a lot of thoughts on this game, one that USC needed to and should have won if it had any belief that this team was capable of competing for a spot in the College Football Playoffs. Coach Hyde thinks that this team needs to make adjustments to survive in the world of Big Ten football, as there are many differences from what USC is seeing now as opposed to what it saw back in the Pac-12. It starts with being more physical in every aspect of the game, and while the Trojans have improved in that area, there is still a lot more work to do. There are more ‘bring your lunch pail to work’ games in this conference and USC needs to be ready for contests turning into a rock fight, with fewer possessions and blocking and tackling taking precedence over a finesse passing game. Tunnel Vision: Previewing No. 11 USC heading back out on the road to take on Minnesota
10/4/2024
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio previewing the No. 11 USC's road trip to Minnesota, with the Trojans facing off against a desperate Golden Gophers squad that is 2-3 on the season and looking for its first Big Ten conference win of the season. The game will be on live at 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time and 6:30 p.m. Central Time and shown on the Big Ten Network. The guys talk about some of the matchups for this game including the highly ranked defense for Minnesota including a secondary that has eight interceptions on the season. The Gophers have been more pedestrian on offense and the offensive line already has 15 penalties on the season, but as we saw against Michigan they can put together some good drives and should be a tough test for D'Anton Lynn's defense. Both teams have had some up and down plays from their special teams units and it could come down to which side avoids the huge mistake or makes the game changing play in the kicking game. The guys also discuss USC's injury situation, the progress of the offensive line, what it will take for the Trojans to get their first Big Ten road victory and lots more. Trojans trying to follow up first Big Ten victory with road win at Minnesota
10/2/2024
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio discussing the Trojans second half comeback over Wisconsin and the upcoming road trip against Minnesota. After some time to digest what went down Saturday in the Coliseum the guys share their thoughts on the game, including what they heard from Lincoln Riley on Trojans Live and following Tuesday's practice. Riley was able to provide some injury updates including safety Akili Arnold and linebacker Eric Gentry being listed as questionable for the road trip to Minnesota. As expected, there was no sight of Bear Alexander at practice and no further update on his status with the team. We they have discussed since Connor broke the news last week, we don't expect to see Bear around the team for the rest of the season. Linebacker Raesjon Davis also appears to be a redshirt candidate as he was wearing a scout team jersey during Tuesday's practice. There was also a lot of talk about the offensive line focusing on the fundamentals coming off of that Michigan loss. The front five played better against Wisconsin, but there was still a lot of pressure on Miller Moss and they need to keep developing and improving as the season goes on. Looking ahead the guys talk about this extremely important business trip to Minneapolis where the Trojans will try to secure their first road win in Big Ten conference play. The Golden Gophers are 2-3 on the season but gave Michigan all it could handle last weekend in the Big House, so USC will need to come to play if it wants to improve to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Helium Boys: USC readies for Minnesota road test, Wisconsin comeback and muffin talk
10/1/2024
The Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast, returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino behind the microphones for another episode. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's come-from-behind 38-21 victory over Wisconsin in the Trojans' first-ever Big Ten game in the Coliseum and look forward to a trip to Minnesota to take on a stingy Golden Gophers team that has struggled to put together a complete game. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that includes Chris thanking the staff for filling in for him after missing the game for a wedding while Shotgun initially goes off the rails talking about MLB's final day of the regular season before discussing the potential of road weariness starting to play a factor for the Trojans as they travel back and forth across the country. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Ja'Kobi Lane and the carousel of receiving targets taking first billing are discussed as well as the Trojans' defense getting repeated stops on third and fourth down. Quinten Joyner, Kamari Ramsey and second-half adjustments also make the cut. But on the flip side, USC's lack of intensity coming out of the gates the last two weeks was discussed heavily in the Stock Down portion. After a break, the Helium Boys preview the Trojans' upcoming Big Ten road trip to Minnesota, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday evening's game. The podcast duo then answer your mailbag questions discussing primarily offensive line concerns and defensive pressure issues of the Trojans. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Minnesota. Coach Harvey Hyde on how he feels the Trojans just need to avoid beating themselves
9/30/2024
On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about USC getting its first ever Big Ten conference victory, taking down Wisconsin 38-21 in the Coliseum. After a slow start and the worst half of football of the season that put the Trojans in a 21-10 hole, USC pitched a shutout after halftime and outscored the Badgers 28-0 on its way to a 17-point victory in a game that looked very much in doubt. Coach talked about the need for the Men of Troy to avoid the bad starts like what we saw on Saturday with three first half turnovers, uncharacteristically poor tackling a poor efforts on punt returns. If the Trojans can just avoid beating themselves, the schedule sets up well enough that the wins will come and USC should be in the College Football Playoff picture at the end of the season. After beating themselves in the first half against Wisconsin, Lincoln Riley and his troops cleaned things up and took control of the game. He loves the bend but don't break attitude of the defense that has shut out the opposition in 6 of 12 quarters and only allowed 82 yards in the second half against the Badgers. He feels the pass blocking needs some work and he wants to see some adjustments made to help Moss in this offense that seems more suited for a highly athletic quarterback. He also wants to see better communication on the punt returns, saying the team needs to generate positive yards and be smart with the choice of returning the ball or not. Tunnel Vision: Recapping USC's 38-21 comeback win over Wisconsin plus special guest Kamari Ramsey
9/29/2024
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio giving their thoughts on the Trojans 38-21 come from behind victory over the Badgers, the very first Big Ten conference win for this USC football team. All three guys were in the Coliseum and witnessed the first half to forget followed by a second half that was unforgettable with where the Trojans outscored Wisconsin 28-0 including a game clinching pick-6 by linebacker Mason Cobb. Before the guys give their thoughts on the game they welcome in safety Kamari Ramsey who led the team with four tackles, the only two tackles for loss on the defense including the best hit of the year in the second half. Ramsey joins the show to talk about yet another stellar second half performance by this Trojan defense, how the team dealt with Akili Arnold's absence and getting the first ever Big Ten conference victory. The interview with Ramsey was conducted in conjunction with House of Victory, an alumni-backed nonprofit collective dedicated to providing a competitive edge in the NIL space for University of Southern California student-athletes. Helium Boys: USC stumbles in Minnesota, rematch with No. 4 Penn State and Mall of America
9/27/2024
Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return behind the microphones for another episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's disappointing 24-17 loss to Michigan in Minneapolis as their first-ever conference Big Ten road win again evaded the Trojans. They also look forward to USC's upcoming matchup against a top five Penn State team in the Coliseum this weekend. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that Shotgun apparently has no regard for any more after blatantly abusing the timer as he rants about the inconsistency of the Big Ten officiating that USC has been subjected to during their tenure in the conference. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about his trip to Minnesota Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Woody Marks continues to be a stock up candidate after another strong performance. Eric Gentry's stock was on the rise despite not playing while youngsters Alani Noa and Jide Abasiri are on the climb as is USC's run blocking. On the flip side, the Trojans' run defense and inability to get off of blocks is discussed heavily in the Stock Down portion. The Helium Boys then preview the upcoming Big Ten home opener against No. 4 Penn State for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing the offensive line play and the warmth of offensive line coach Josh Henson's seat, zebra issues and Greedy Vance Jr. The episode concludes with Chris quizzing Shotgun with some Take It or Leave Its about the upcoming game and the state of Pennsylvania before having him cold rank the eight most American things in the Mall of America. The guys talk about some of the matchups for this game including the Trojans facing a backup quarterback for the third game in a row, Wisconsin's defensive front and how capable they are of giving the USC offensive line issues, Miller Moss getting back to spreading the ball around again, facing off against some familiar faces including Alex Grinch and Tackett Curtis and lots more. The guys also discuss the shocking news that star defensive tackle Bear Alexander has decided to redshirt this season and not be available to be a part of the defensive line rotation. Trojans trying to regroup after the Michigan loss plus Bear social media drama
9/25/2024
In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio discussing how the Trojans are trying to move on from the heartbreaking loss to Michigan this week and looking ahead to Wisconsin for the first Big Ten game in the Coliseum. The guys talk about what head coach Lincoln Riley had to say on Trojans Live and after Tuesday's practice plus what the offensive players talked about including Woody Marks and his amazing strip of the football that essentially kept the Trojans in the game against Michigan. They also look ahead to an important matchup against Wisconsin and talk about how the Trojans will try to get right on offense and keep the high level defensive play going against the Badgers. If getting pushed around by Michigan's defensive front wasn't enough to light a fire under this Trojan offense, knowing former DC Alex Grinch and former starting linebacker Tackett Curtis are on the opposing sidelines should be all the motivation Miller Moss and company needs. Outside of three plays, the USC defense played extremely well against the Wolverines and a similar effort should be enough to shut down Wisconsin who is without its starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. They also give their thoughts on the Bear Alexander situation with some interesting comments on social media from his camp and former USC football players. On Tuesday Lincoln Riley said, "there's no story there," but the social media posts keep coming. CLICK HERE for 30% OFF an annual VIP membership to USCFootball.com! Helium Boys: USC resets after Michigan loss, offensive line woes, Wisconsin and cheese talk

The Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football podcast, returns with Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino behind the microphones for another episode. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's heartbreaking 27-24 loss to Michigan in the Big House in their-ever Big Ten game and look forward to the first-ever Big Ten matchup in the Coliseum this weekend when Wisconsin comes to town. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill' that Chris apparently can't remember the name of. Shotgun talks about the atmosphere and the pageantry of the matchup between USC and Michigan as well as how one play could have changed this entire game. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how close the game was and how the Trojans showed grit to rally to take the lead before ultimately falling. Then he goes on a rant about the term "caddy corner," and it's usage in Ann Arbor on this trip. Chris and Shotgun then dive into their Stock Up/Stock Down segment looking at the players and themes that saw their stock rise or dip this week. Woody Marks and Miller Moss were two unanimous choices for improving stocks as was the continued elite, wild man play of Eric Gentry on the defensive side. But on the flip side, the offensive line was discussed heavily in the Stock Down portion. The Helium Boys then preview the upcoming Big Ten home opener against Wisconsin for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. Tunnel Vision: Recapping USC's frustrating 27-24 loss to Michigan in the Big House
9/22/2024
On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Chris Trevino and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back from Michigan where they witnessed what was a very frustrating loss for the Trojans, falling to Michigan 27-24 in front of over 110,000 souls in the Big House. The Wolverines were completely one-dimensional on offense with Alex Orji throwing for just 32 yards in his first career start, but Michigan ran for 290 yards including three explosive runs and that ended up being just enough offense for the boys in blue to take down USC. The Trojans couldn't have started worse on offense with the run blocking and pass protection equally bad in the first half. Lincoln Riley switched things up with his front five and that worked well after halftime, but USC just didn't play a clean enough game to take control of a game that was certainly within its reach. The guys talk about everything they saw and heard in Ann Arbor, the quotes (or lack thereof) from players and coaches after the game and what their thoughts on what this loss means for the rest of the Big Ten schedule. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Jack Smith and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio previewing the very first Big Ten conference game for USC, a road contest against Michigan in the Big House. When USC and UCLA announced they were leaving the Pac-12 for the B1G, no one could have anticipated that the Trojans very first Big Ten conference game would be as historic as this one, facing off against the Wolverines in the regular season for the first time since the 1950s. USC and Michigan are used to meeting up in the Rose Bowl, so Saturday's contest will be a unique early season clash between college football blue bloods. Helium Boys Special: Interview with USC LB Eric Gentry on regaining confidence, film study and Wawa
9/18/2024
Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return for a special Tunnel Vision takeover episode of the Helium Boys Podcast, a serious non-serious USC football prodcast. The Helium Boys are back with a special guest interview with USC linebacker Eric Gentry where he talks about regaining his confidence, his passion for film study, the Trojans' defensive turnaround and his affinity for Wawa. Gentry discusses how he's been able to get off to a great start to the season, leading the team with 14 tackles, including a team-best 3.5 tackles for loss, through the first two games. He credits the new coaching staff for helping him take his game to another level, including linebackers coach Matt Entz helping him decipher presnap indicators that have helped him play a step faster. A lot of that comes from his work in the film room, which is something Gentry has taken very seriously since now-Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce helped show him the importance during their time together at Arizona State. The 6-foot-6 linebacker also talks about the freedom he has in the new defense, how defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn asks for and uses his feedback from the field and discusses when he realized the Trojans could have a good defense this year. He tries to define what his role in USC's defense is, and Gentry even looks back and opens up about the school he wanted an offer from growing up that never came. After a break, Shotgun and Chris delve into Gentry's personality, which has an on-field/off-field duality. Gentry also talks about the role his faith plays as a Muslim football player and why music is so important to him, particularly on game days. The episode concludes with the podcasting duo quizzing the Philadelphia native about his home city with Chris throwing some Take It or Leave Its about the iconic elements of Philly at Gentry. The Helium Boys are back to break down USC's upcoming trip to Ann Arbor and the matchup with Michigan in the Trojans' first-ever Big Ten game. The episode opens with the Helium Boys staple 'Two-Minute Drill.' Shotgun talks about former USC wide receiver Drake London having the game-winning catch on Monday Night Football as the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Philadelphia Eagles. Chris then takes the 'Two-Minute Drill' reins to talk about how excited he is about the upcoming matchup of USC playing in The Big House and the opportunity to cover a game in another historic venue. Chris and Shotgun then dive into a preview of the upcoming Michigan game for the Trojans, taking a look at the key storyline, player and matchup before positing scenarios that would cause USC to win and scenarios that would cause USC to lose Saturday afternoon's game. After a break, the podcast duo answer your mailbag questions discussing Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore unveiling his starting quarterback five days before kickoff, how the Michigan offensive line is looking compared to last year and how much concern there should be about Bear Alexander's lack of production through the first two games. The Helium Boys also give their Mount Rushmore of former Wolverines before debating the top movie of The Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman's notable career.
